Settlement building issues

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:14 am

I seem to be having a lot of issues during settlement building with all items wanting to hover a few inches off the ground, which becomes even worse if the land is even slightly uneven(which is the majority of almost every settlement). Anyone else having these issues? Seems like no matter how low I try to get it to go it will only lay directly on the ground if it is flat. Some things like the bridges, some stairs, etc can be placed partially underground but most things have to have the pointer aimed directly above the surface. Be nice if they'd fix this, would also like to have more options to create streamlined perimeter walls, or even a way to have a base outside of settlements(ie. a separate workbench for a compound/fortress) that could be anywhere in which you've cleared out previously.

I've had a little bit of that to. The first building I made when I went to put the roof on it would only let me put the middle row of the roof in. After that all it kept either trying to put them on the outside of the building or overlapping them with the center row. Leaving areas uncovered. Later on a two story wooden structure it wouldn't let me put the stairs flush against the house. It kept leaving a small gap. For the most part using the premade pieces seems to help at least for me.

Yea they don't work quite right, and on my current house there is a gap between the first and second floor which is noticeable when I go up the stairs. The pieces of my wood walls do not line up or "snap" quite right.

Agreed, did this start happening when you got local Leader perk? If not then just has to be a coincident that it happened to me for the for the first time. Hope anyone knows how to fix this without restarting...

I'm hoping building and revitalization is one thing they build upon(excuse the pun) in future updates and dlc. At this point, it's very glitchy. I would also like to see misc. items no longer be auto broken down into components for building settlements. If I have enough raw materials in inventory it won't matter, but if not it doesn't ask me if I want to break down my items, or which I would like to use, to build my items. It's my fault, but often I carry collectible items that are technically 'junk' but that I want to display in my house and they end up getting used to build a turret instead :P

Only thing that works good is the prefabs, nothing else...just kind of floating.

I've had problems even with the prefabs, in fact, it seems especially on prefabs do they like to float. I think a lot of problems would be solved, or at least lessened, if it was somehow possible to enter into a type of 'developer mode', like in the G.E.C.K, during workshop construction. That way buildings could be constructed as desired without any worry of the game trying to move your pieces to what it considers the best position/attachment.

Possible solution: All I did was hold A or X and woo it was hovering but if you look down it will touch the ground slight fix right?

I'm on pc, so my hovering issues might be slightly different, as no matter what I do it wants to hover and any attempt to use directional keys or looking further down or side to side only results in it turning red and possibly thinking I want to put my building up in the air. :P

You can actually sink objects into the ground :) For me on the PS4, I have to ready the item I want to use, hold X, and then press either R1 or L1 to raise and lower the object.

Not entirely sure if this fixs your guys problem but when i was building my 6 story home, yes its my home and i deserve it, i ran into the same issue. The walls i tried putting around the already built base of a previously scrapped house were hovering.

You need to put floor on the ground before building walls on them, this way they dont hover and they even will attach themselves to the floor if u bring the walls close enough.

As for the 2nd story, build floors on top of the flat roofs in order to put walls without the hovering walls problem. Hope this helps!
