Maybe I'm missing something but ...

Who cares if Codsworth knows your name? He says it a total of three times, and then disapears.

Once you bring people back to Sanctuary, it seems that Codsworth is gone forever!

I'm only 20 or so hours in, and have yet to do many quests (I only just an hour ago set foot in Diamond City); but I have completed the 'Sanctuary' quest along with a few others. Codsworth is nowhere in Sanctuary. I Even tried ringing the bell or activating the siren. Still no Codsworth. Maybe I shouldn't have scarapped the box he came in?

If I am indeed missing something, please feel free to point it out (without spoilers, if possible.)

Only 20hrs or so in? The thought of starting over is rough to have. I've not lost him myself and I'm nearly 3days into the game. I don't know if it's quest related that he goes AWOL but you could try finding a walkthrough? ... if you haven't already looked into that.

Did you say he came in a box? So weird I don't remember that. Tell you what though, he's a horrible follower to have if you're sneaking and killing.

I didn't realize he was a follower. I was just looking for him in sanctuary, where I thought he lived.

His box is in the players home, in the little room with the washer/dryer. I was only joking about scrapping the box being a bad idea.

There isn't a quest or scripted event for him to leave. He's either hiding somewhere in your settlement or he's vanished via glitch.

I'm sure (if every gamesas game since Daggerfall is any indication) I will end up doing dozens of playthroughs of this game, so I am not worried about restarting just yet. I just hope he doesn't have a part later in the MQ.
