So I just started up the game and I have two questions:

1) I found the Grognak the Barbarian in my house, activated it, but I can't seem to find its associated perk anywhere in the perk tree. It looks as if I have no perks at all (I'm still level 1)? Also, say I did gain the perk from the magazine, can I now sell it or drop it or should it stay with me forever?

2) After a fight with a couple of creatures, Dogmeat started whimpering sadly. Thinking he might be hurt, I traded a stimpak onto him, but he doesn't seem to ever use it. Is there another way to heal our companions when they get hurt in battle?

For the perk try going into your pipboy and looking at your perks from there.

And so far I found I can only heal my companions when they have been downed and out of combat I can press A to heal said companion with a stimpack.
