The purpose for caps in Fallout 4

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:08 am

Supplies, ammo, stims...You know, the usual fair when I find myself running low, or just low enough to need them before I can go out and find them.

Oh and the occassional trip to the cosmetic surgeon in Diamond City to add a new scar after certain...particularly epic battles...You can layer those, did you know?

Junk. I. Need. MORE. JUNK.

But that's about the only things I buy regularly. I'm quite good at managing ammo, stims, food and whatever else so I have plenty of it. But I am always running out of junk for components as I'm a bit excessive with the crafting.

Ammo. That's what I'm blowing caps on left and right. I have over 70 stimpacks on hand and 50 bobby pins. But I can't get enough ammo.

You can technically buy most things without any sizeable amount of caps, just by trading things you find. Caps would just be change to make up the balance.

There are some services like the haircutter I suppose that need caps, but then he isn't a trader. Prewar money, Legion denarii and NCR dollars should work in much the same way. They're all representations of the value of the trade.

I mostly used caps for ammo and I bought one legendary weapon (Old Faithful). Other than that, I bought Bobby pins and used a bunch when building trading stands.

That's the place. I forget the name of the sword, Gen Something in Chinese. She had it th efirst time I bartered with her. I saw it with her through at least 15 hours of play. If you did not kill a legendary ghoul in the Super-Duper Mart in Lexington, then I think the good stuff shows randomly. It has a star next to it in the inventory list like other legendary items. It was priced way out of my level 10 price range.

The purpose of caps is to buy things, obviously, seriously you will probably need to buy ammo or stimpaks at some point. I'm playing on Survival and I constantly have no ammo and have to bankrupt myself every time.

Wait till you start crafting then you will be complaining you need more caps. Plus some vendors have some great armor that is like 1000-3000 caps.

There's armour pieces in some shops that cost just shy of 20k caps.

Idk, I've used caps like once - I'm about 50 hours in - level 45. Total across everything I've done I've gained maybe 7000 caps. You get basically none in this game, but not many things require them except certain legendaries from vendors.... which are 10k+

Now that I've gotten to Diamond City I bought Old Faithful too and that cost some. And I bought some ammo and wished I had more money. And there was the 250 caps bribe to the Mayor's secretary darn her. But there is not so much pressure on the money. For a while there I was collecting ONLY for junk. Now I'm looking at stuff for money OR junk depending. And I'm going back and scouring locations to retrieve all that stuff to sell (like the submachine guns for the triggermen). I like the tommy gun by the way but it uses ammo too fast and my perks are focused on single shot guns. I think it's actually an interesting balance.

I use caps to by unique weapons (many vendors and caravans now have their own unique weapons now, some are worth over 10k caps) and hard to get/impossible to obtain ammo types like 2mm EC, Mini Nukes and, of course, Cryo Cells.

Speaking of Old Faithful, I'll give you a tip. Turn it into a sniper rifle, you won't regret it.

We are spoiled for choice.

As well as the settlements and the other 'homes' you acquire, there is never a shortage of somewhere to stay.
