Is there a page of things to check when the game stops responding with WIN 7? It seems that you have quite a few of us with this problem. I have read dozens of posts for WIN 7 and only saw one suggestion which asked to change the INI file (which there are two actually) and that did not work for me. I cannot get past the crib before the game just quits. I have noticed that my GTX 285 is not on the list of supported video cards. Too bad that this does not work - I might have tried the latest release.

if you cannot go past the time your character is born you might need to manually adjust the graphic setting in the launcher for it has been my experience that the setting can be too low for the game to proceed. what works for me is in the default launcher's "Advanced...." settings Checkmark everything, set the drop down options all to high & put all sliders roughly in the middle. though you may want to adjust things to you own liking. but this works well on my 250 series card

If you have the latest patch 1.7, you have to add 2 lines to your .ini.

bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2

Add those two lines under bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles=1.

Get back and let me know what happened.

I must say that I am very surprised and pleased to have two responses to try when I get home tonight. Thanks to both of you! Oh, and when I said that I can not get out of the crib I realized that I was actually in a crib there for a while but the spot that it freezes is right when I leave the pen and put my first points into the book. Like an idiot I purchased the guide along with the game and did not anticipate issues as I have the top of the line system which runs some pretty old (but good) software. Note to self: Never purchase the guide until the software runs and you like the program. LOL

I will try your suggestions tonight and I thank you both again for replying to my post. I will let you know what happens.

When you say it freezes, do you mean you cannot exit the book?

@Mr Death: That fix has nothing to do with patch 1.7. It's for telling the game to run on only two cores since the game will not use more than two and will have problems on triple and quad cores without said ini change. It's been around longer than 1.7.

I get out of the pen, put points in the You're SMART book, Dad comes back in to show me something and that is when it stops. Oh and yes, I had previously installed the 1.7 patch - Should have mentioned that.

I was unable to find this command in any of the INI files: bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles=1 so I created that and put in your other two lines there too.

It might be helpful to post a dxdiag of your PC. Some issues/clues might be seen. Might be codecs, conflicting apps, dated drivers...

How-to:

*If you have a 64-bit OS, soon after starting the dxdiag an option to run a 64-bit dxdiag will appear. Choose this option.
