Settlement Problems, alien settlers.

I always have problems with my settlement, specifically Abernathy Farm. Its like the game cant process my settlement so it just doesn't function... I have a 3 story house across from the farmhouse with beds on the top floor and bottom floor and guards on the middle. I only ever see my guards on the top and one or two people actually sleeping in their beds.

Now the bed situation, it takes 30 seconds + for my settlers to be assigned to a bed after I assign it to them or it just doesn't even assign it at all. Then I will go adventuring and they will have unassigned half the beds, even the default Abernathy's unassign themselves... During the night most if not ALL my settlers will be standing in front of the Abernathy house(Not the one I built for them, furnished and placed their beds) and Staring into the stars like a bunch of creepy alien people until the sun rises. Its annoying, its immersion breaking and its just not functioning right.

Aside from taking forever to assign themselves to anything and actually using any of the beds or furniture or even the damn house I built them they function okay, Guards do what they are supposed to do, Scavengers patrol around the camp and return to their workstation and my Traders man their trading posts. Just the rest of what they do isn't right... I spent so much time on this settlement and even removed the door from the house I built so they would actually go up the stairs and inside.. Their Pathing is terribad as well.

I only have 16 people there and my settlement is still significantly under the size limit..

Agreed, pathing is very poor.

Which i think is one of the problems which leads to so many other problems.

It seems to me like theres some domino effect, like with a house that has 1 doorway, if first settler gets stuck in the doorway for what ever reason.. rest of the settlers are then not able to enter the house either.. and all AI is just suspended on everyone..

I've had in several settlements where all the NPCs seems to be huddled up in a group somewhere, and once i start running back and forth through the crowd, the tiniest movement on a few of the settlers, suddenly pops the cork that blocks everyone.. and they all slowly fall into place.

So yeah i think the pathing is making immersion quite bad in many cases.

Yup... its terrible. Now my settlers are walking off the cliff at Croup Manor, or they are spawing down there. I have 7 people there and it was dead empty.... they are all just hanging out in the water and I cant assign tasks to the because they are way out of range... took my about an hour to figure out that my settlers actually existed and weren't just ghosts.
