I have to say I'm torn with the idea. I was hoping to be able to make ammo. But then, it would have to be fairly difficult to find parts and less ammo to find to balance it. So I'm not sure. ;)

I hope that it will be in a DLC at least. So I can make bulk 5mm.

This was one of the first questions I came across while playing. To craft it, or at least reload your own shells, would be awesome. When I'm out on a gun range, IRL, I pick up my shells for a friend to reload. Can you imagine picking up your own shells after an intense fight so you can reload? I'd enjoy that.

The only way I could see it happening is along the lines of FNV... Just break down your other ammo to get the components you need... It wouldn't be too difficult...

maybe you should play on an easier level, survival sounds too hard for you.

So you massively reduce the spawn rates on gun power etc to reduce how easy and abusable it is to craft. Not a hard thing to balance really.

Then again when Skyrim release arrow crafting was not possible but they added it later so here's hoping

Unfortunatly i had to and it was a salty experience. Its not that the game is way to difficult, its the game throwing more enemy's at me (that require alot to kill) then ammunition. Yeah sure i can get the scrounger perk but those points could go into other much needed perks, much needed perks for survival mode.

That is perplexing. Why no ammo workbenches? It seems like a natural thing to find. Maybe they'll add it in with an early DLC. We definitely need some AP rounds or overcharges for the energy weapons -- though the downside would be non-existant since weapons don't degrade (which I REALLY like). I'd love to make match ammo and break down some types of ammo to make others.

Even better to find an ammo station like we had in the Pitt. Not my favorite DLC (though it had a good story, just too dark and gritty) but I loved the ammo station.

We had a similar discussion back when Wasteland 2 was in development over in the InXile game forums. To my perspective, the most difficult elements in ammo manufacture are 1) knowing all of the formulas for producing projectile propellants, 2) knowledge of the manufacturing process, 3) access to the necessary raw materials, and 4) access to the specialized equipment for manufacturing ammo. Just how many people in a 200 years after the Apocalypse world would be able to adequately address all four of those elements?

In contrast to my scholarly arguments, I was countered with, "Because the players WILL need an adequate supply of what is required to utilize their in-game toys". In short, imagine Fallout where using ammo feels like throwing away diamonds. Guns get replaced with blunt weapons, edged weapons, and crossbows. Totally changes the game dynamics.

The best compromise I could see are workbenches that allow for ammo conversion rather than ammo creation. Such as taking lots of 5-mm ammo and converting it into .308 ammo. All you need would be lots of empty .308 casings, primers, and a supply of lead to be molded into .308 slugs. Relatively easy compared to making .308 ammo from scratch.
