Food resources - settlements

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 11:09 am

recently I started rmoving food production in my larger settlements since I thought the purpose of the farm settlements(like abernathy farm, graygarden) was to give the excess food to the other settlements through supply route. This doesn't seem to work since the settlements gets a warning triangle for food when it the population amount rises above the food amount even though I have alot of excess food being produced in my farming settlements and they are connected through trade routes. Is this a bug or is the food resource actually not intended to be shared between supply routes. Seems odd to me, defeats the purpose of having farms :(

It might be intended to share resources such as food though. After a while I saw the triangle on the settlement (covenant) dissapear even though it was 11 people and 10 food... But a while later it appeared again. So perhaps it's a bug? Can anyone confirm food resource is suppose to be be able to be shared between settlements via supply routes?

I'm pretty sure the supply route are supposed to share food and water between settlements as well as workshop items. Think about it what's the point of the water pump that produces 40 water if the max settlers you can have is 10+ CHR for a max of 20.

would it matter if you have a vendor setup in each settlement? not sure of your setup still trying to figure out things.

its 10 + charisma level.. but your charisma level can be higher than 10... if you start with 10 and get bobblehead thats +1 for 11 charisma.. wear clothes for +2-3 charisma for 13-14 charisma level.. wear sunglasses for 15-16 charisma.. your charisma can get pretty high from items. and all of it still counts towards population cap.

Could someone explain to me how Rank 1 in Local Leader actually works? I got it thinking it would auto-link my Workshop Junk Materials (and subsequently make building new settlements so much easier since I wouldn't need to bring in the materials) but that doesn't seem to be the case and it says I need Rank 2 to build a Trader, which again, makes me wonder what the point is in Rank 1 other than wasting a Skill Point on a poorly described Perk (seriously, I should've just ranked up Ninja instead).

You can link them and share resources. You have to find a free person . Select them in the build mode. Then you see an option to assign them to share supplies with your other settlement. This person will be your supply runner.

As pocket said you the perk does nothing until you assign someone to be your caravan runner.. until you actually assign someone to transfer goods its useless (also you must do this for every town/settlement so you need a spare person per settlement you want to trade with..)

Thank you.

Does this mean that only the settlement where that particular settler lives, that only those resources will be shared? Or do I need to basically think it like a telecommunications network and I need another settler in a different settlement to "receive" the stored resources? Or does it work like magic and just one settler from one settlement auto-links all settlements (probably not, I'm guessing)?

Either way, explains a few things.

You have to link a settler to each settlement.. as they get linked they get crossed off the list of available settlements to link to. say you linked sanctuary to the castle for example.. the castle would no longer appear on the list when you try to assign another settler on another route.

Water for settlers is the smallest reason to build larger water pumps. I run 3 x 40 water supply industrial water purifiers, and even then just barely keep up with my massive adhesive factory farms.

I make all I need for mods and sell the rest. So more water is always in demand - only reason I dont add more water is defense needs go too high and run out of circuits for turrets.

I agree food resources grown one loc should xfer to other locs. Maybe bug for now or bad design patched later.

For now though, the one big advantage to running farm settlements at least for me is i link them all to sanctuary and just take the crops that are auto deposited. I could harvest more if i go manually harvest, but by running enough excess crops at settlements and what i manually harvest at sanctuary, i get enough auto deposited to keep up with my adhesive factory output

I just wish i could figure out way to control buying or attracting brahmin for fertilizer output. I just get the random ones but no ability to go get like 10 or so at whim.

I am not sure .The way I have it setup now,i use my main settlement as the link and have everything else connect to it. My main settlement has all my supplies so I haven't had a need to pull anything from the other settlements.

I have 3 locations linked up. Why do I not see the aggregate total of items from all 3?

I can't access the bulk of my stuff sitting in home base (sanctuary) from the other 2. Are items shared for the purpose of crafting only?
