It was glorious. Fast travelled to Abernathy Farms - late night game time and very dark, barely started moving towards patch of corn I planted and 6 feral ghouls came screaming in at a sprint from the West.
I barely had time to bring up my SMG and start firing when the whole night lit up like a war zone with tracer light - had mounted 4 HMG turrets on top of the Abernathy Farms structure, facing West as I figured that's where I saw occasional NPCs moving north-south and danger would come from that direction.
No walls, no guard posts, farm hasn't had time to fort up, just the HMGs up on the roofline - and they blazed away like crazy, cutting down those ghouls.
I think I had a small -O- at that moment. It was probably top 5 gaming sight I've had - I'm sure would have looked less impressive in day time but at night, had no idea those HMGs lit up firing tracer rounds because that's what it looked like.
Playing on survival and pretty sure without those HMGs, 6 feral ghouls in my face would have killed me. Good news is the HMGs were there and saved me. Bad news is the uncaring machines shot up my corn patch.
So factoid for people that did not know because attacks happened off screen when you were not there - it is not necessarily the monsters that damaged your plants, water pump, etc - it could be your own machine guns because my HMGs shot the hell out of my corn patch, and the animation was awesome - actual corn stalks were shot off in half, laying on the dirt, etc.
It was worth repairing my corn planation just to see that happen.
