I think you have to go into their inventory and make them equip items you give them - should be an Equip option in the menu. I had to do that with Dogmeat when I found a bandana and gave it to him.

I've got Fallout 4 on ps4.

Amazing, anyway. Running through buildings and the streets is simply astounding.

You assign clothes to Piper, and once you've done that with an outfit it'll become her 'default' and seem to vanish form her inventory until you apply a new piece. Don't know what it is for PS4/Xbox One versions but for PC it's T to assign clothes. (Because logic and interface design.)

That sounds like a holdover from Skyrim - followers default equipment in that game was always hidden in their inventories, presumably so you couldn't just strip them of everything and abandon them someplace. It led to all kinds of bugs with them spawning duplicate items of their default kit until they'd become overburdened and they couldn't carry anything you tried to give them (that was patched in 1.6, IIRC).

I actually kind of like this system - followers would just auto-equip whatever they wanted based on the item's damage/damage resistance rating in previous games.

Piper doesn't equip any piece of armor at all, just the weapons.

Yes she does. You're doing it wrong. Give her the item. Mouse over it and press T.

Done, thanx for the advice. If only Beth had implemented such command in Skyrim...
