Enemies spawning inside settlement?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 12:54 am

I have a settlement that is fully enclosed with a combination of junk fences and walls,

yet every so often i come back to find gunners in my base attacking.

Is that supposed to happen? if so, i just wasted a few hours of my life building the walls.

I think enemies can spawn anywhere because it would be cheating to use a fence to keep attackers out maybe?

Isn't that the purpose of fences? Keeping something out?

It's unfortunately a bad design from Bethesda, they can just spawn in the middle of your settlement. I built walls as well because the dude told me "build some defences, perhapse some WALLS" ... But it's completely pointless lol

I'm going to be pretty bummed if fences don't keep raiders out. If they can just magic their way in, that means I wasted hours building my settlement fences too.

If they have predetermined spawn points inside the settlement it's on though. Fence 'em in and burn em up, although that's going to be a lot less satisfying than funneling them into a killbox a the gate and having auto-turrets chew them up.

Just saw this. Damn. That's pretty lame detail work, gamesas.

My display of 5 sets of power armour

(I have no idea how to share a picture)

Yes enemies spawn inside settlement borders - have seen it multiple times while i was in settlement so saw it personally vs off screen attacks you have to guess at.

Not enough data to know if interior spawns are truly random (to extent any RNG seed is random) or if specific spawn points exist.

My two sanctuary attacks i saw personally spawn were at:
Past bridge and between the first house where cooking station by default is, and abandoned home plot. Mutants spawned right between the sides of these two home locations.

Due to this protected angle, none of bridge proximity turrets could fire on them. Fortunately i had turrets on the next abandone home plot i ised as comcrete foundation to plant turrets all 4 corners as interior defense. They have huge, almost LOS range.

Another spawn point, which on one occassion had mutants spawn here at same time as another pack at above location, is far north part, past circular street courtyard and just behind home with the fallen tree that allows climbing up to house roof with no ladder (via the tree to bush to roof)

Rule of thumb for sanctuary protection based on my xp and interior spawns - if you raze every abandone home, and dont rebuild - the comcrete foundation is perfectly place for interior protection turrets that can hit anything - not sure about other turrets but HMg has incredible range.

Place two turrets minimum at opposite corners - all four corners is best but start with 2 is fine. Pick the two corners that face either mostly north and south as best first set. Plant turrets facing oppostite of each other. The traverse a lot more than the slow scan you sse when plamted so angle of fire protection is quite a lot, at least 120 degree from center line of initial turret facing. Havent seen proven 180 degree spin traverse capability but have seen about 120 degrees.

If you build home on these abandone plots, interior defense is bit trickier, but i would assume mounting turrets on roof corners would work, but LOs might be issue so would need more turrets than razed plot version in order to cover same interior zone.

Would building a walled prison in the middle of base work so that they spawned inside it with no way out? Might be fun in a really twisted (if it's okay to do it in the sims then it's okay here), way.

I have not had a problem with them spawning inside. But half my walls disappeared during an attack. Scared the heck out of me as i thought the raiders could destroy my metal castles. But after having it only happen once i have put it down to a bug or glitch. It is a shame though as i lost over 200 metal worth of them. Also would be nice to pull apart the old buildings and have more settlers.

Maxed my charisma and with my bonus 1 so i think it is 10 + Max Charisma = 21 max settlers at one place.

Kinda related question: How can provide arms to my settlement/my settlers? Any place to store it so they will help themselves to a gun or do I have to give each one guns and armor via bartering?
