settlers stuck in trade mode

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 3:28 am

Hey,

I asked a settler/farmer to trade with me and from this time every settler/farmer only want to trade with me. I cannot give them orders (like planting food). It seems like a bug. Every time I talk to a settler/farmer they only trade with me.

It was okay, cause I didn't take care of this settlements. But now I'm stuck in a quest, where I have to give a settler the order to operate an artillery-weapon. And I cannot give him the order, cause the first thing he does is to trade with me.

How can I fix this bug? I don't have a savegame from before the bug. It's more than ten hours ago, since the bug happend.

Hope I explained my problem good enough and somebody can help me.

PS: Sorry for my bad english.

I don't think it's a bug as it does the same for me. Seems like if they don't have anything to say to you, it'll just initiate trade. If you want to order them to man something, go into workshop mode and put your cursor over the NPC and then click the position you want them to take.

As far as I have seen, you have ONE opportunity to assign a new to the settlement settler to a specific task. That's when you happen to be at that particular settlement and encounter the newly arrived settler. Settlers that have been in the settlement for any length of time decide for themselves what task they will work on. And once they have done that, they can't be reassigned.

You use the workshop editor and "use" the NPC, then "use" some assignable task. They'll auto assign themselves more tasks of the same nature, up to a given cap of 6 for food, but idk for defense.

Like already stated above, but to clear things up a bit so there's no confusion.

When you first speak to a settler who has just arrived for the first time will introduce themselves to you, at this point you will have four options, I can't remember them all off the top of my head but it follows as. "Need help with anything, yes, no" and possibly "trade". The "yes" option is used to give them a task, after this, if the settler has no other need to talk to you then all forms of communication with them will be to simply trade.

After all this, the only other times they will have something to say to you is for, a new settlement they know of, or if they want you to build them a chair, bed, ect.

If you would like to assign any and all settlers to a resource, or reassign them to something else you will have to do so by going into the workshop, hover over the settler, it will say "command", action click them and then go to the resource you want to assign them to, the resource will say "assign" and the red person icon will turn green following with a message at the top left "resource now assigned" and the red icon will turn green and now you're done.
