What happened to the rest of the world?

That's a good line of thought. I would wager that if the 2 countries, US and China had a nuclear exchange that led to a nuclear winter which lasted for decades, the other countries would be less than eager to help them. I do remember that in FO:T there are some characters that trace their origins to Europe, so they might not be totally devastated.

Even if all the nuclear weapons weapons in the world wold be detonated now this wouldn't happen. Is basicly impossible to do with just a "couple" of nukes.....

You are full of [censored]... the war didn't have "A couple" of bombs, 2000+ nukes went off in the timespan of 2 minutes, and roughly in the same general area, there is a very REAL chance that the orbit of earth would be effected. That would be roughly around 200,000+ megatons of explosive power going off in a general area. Realistically in the fallout universe there was no scaling down of the nuclear arsenals, like what happened in our time line, so there very well could have been 4000-5000 nukes in all the world's arsenals.

Calm down.

I think Domoclis is right, and not full of crap, even with 4000-5000 nukes, you arent going to knock the planet out of alignment.

Not going to happen.

Look up the mass of the Earth, and calculate how much energy would be required to impart a significant delta-v (change in velocity) on it. It is, in layman's terms, "very high."

All the power of a major nation's nuclear arsenal can barely compare to a Category 5 hurricane, a storm system hundreds of miles across.

Man's works are impressive, but nature still has us beat at every turn.

Nuclear winter wouldnt have happened, in the Fallout universe, that just doesnt exist. As the theory for it was only made and proved in the 1970s. See, in Fallout, everyhting that happened after about 1950 or so never happened. At least not like it did for us. All their technology is different ( at least the major ones are) not only is that different though, the physics of the Fallout world are different from ours. No Nuclear Winter is part of that.

So perhaps it is possible the Earth was moved out of alignment, in fact, that sounds like something out of a 50s sci-fi novekl, and as everything in the universe in Fallout is influenced by 50s culture, even the physics, this could be possible.

And remember, in every country save America and possibly China, fossil fuels had run out, the smaller nations that werent involved in the Resource Wars, yet relied on these fuels, would have collapsed.

Imagine Mad Max, but as having happened in all countries.

Now add nukes into it. You have several countries totally destroyed by nuclear war, and most others destroyed by lack of fuel and whatnot.

I think that works.

Other countries could have started tossing nukes around, too. If (very big 'if', considering the Fallout world) ICBM's or something like them were used, other nuclear-capable countries could have seen them on RADAR and assumed they were coming from an enemy country and retaliate (in line with MAD).
If not, then just refer to the post above.

Guess that countries like Afrika or South America where the bombs didnt fell, people suffered from an extreme famine, because the bombs would [censored] all the atmosphere, and thus all food production would be much [censored] too. It would end with much less people, like someone said, mad max style. Also, with much more living humans, there would be several mutations.
