Can you unlock more build-able objects?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:11 pm

I am just curious if you can unlock more build-able objects than the ones you start with through some sort of progression or other means.

Been having a surprising amount of fun with settlement construction.

Bushes should probably be made deletable though lol.

One of the collectable magazines unlocks unique buildables, but I don't think there are, like, TONS of options that are initially hidden.

I'll take whatever. More I have to work with the more interesting things I can make. I already have a fully fortified and prospering Sanctuary. 15+ People, 35 Food, 34 Water, 30 Power, 72 defense, 35 beds 80 Happiness. Roughly 85% size limit though. I have a minor fort at Oberland station as well. Spending more time building settlements than playing the game lol.

Hehe. I really need to invest in the settlements a bit more. I spent my first few hours helping Preston but then decided to follow the main quests a bit more without actually building up any of the settlements I helped. I probably really ought to go back and give those poor settlers something to sleep on.

I think you can get a few new prefabs, I thought I noticed 1 extra wood and metal one that I didn't have before.

I think the magazine is Picket Fences. It's given me the ability to build (Woooooooo!) white picket fences, thus far.

Which is funny because I realized last night that you build with the exiting already existing white picket fences in some settlements (Sanctuary, for example). I've been scraping them and the, by accident, I discovered I could move and place them as, well, a fence.

So now my sheet metal and plywood compount with three machine gun turrets on it has a nice white picket fence around it.

I've found a magazine for white fences and one for statues.

I'd kill for one that gave me double high walls... making a tall shed to hold things that don't fit in single high buildings is a pain.

Totally agrees, it feels weird to build a shack and have bushes coming from the floor, there should also be a tool for landscaping or have some structures added beneath the house, cause sometimes they look suspended. I'm not complaining, this is a wonderful game but this building part could be a lot more improved.

You also can get to build a canon if you do a mission on the castle settlement.

Personally, I would prefer more house styles instead of just wood scrap or metal scrap.

I hope Bethesda adds more to the settlement building with patches and DLC. I'd like to see new things added continuously. So far, the Picket Fences magazine is the only thing I've found in-game that adds more options.

I found one magazine that gave me the ability to build patio furniture (or maybe it was actual furniture) but I cant remember the name of it.

There are arcane arts you can practice to defeat the size limit. A google search will take you to the nexus site page for it. It takes a bit of magic, but you can build as much as your system will handle... which is likely a fair bit more than the small number settled on for console support.

This! Population is capped at 10+charisma. Although apparently things that boost charisma work if you keep them up long enough. Also you could just cheat in the console to arbitrarily boost charisma for the sake of settlement building. I think 15-20 settlers is enough for me personally... enough to man all the shop types, farm food, and post a few guards.

@sam340, you can use one of the wall pieces that are open as windows.... although its more like a balcony but that's what I use, add in the small walls that fit it on the ends and its like a window.

I found the Picket Fences for patio furniture as well, haven't checked it out yet as i am too busy building food, water and machine guns (the real resources needed to survive ;D) I do hope to eventually find something that lets you build not-crappy shacks. i understand the feel they were going for in the game but come on, after 200 years someone would have found the spare time to patch the holes in the walls that lets through all that radiation. Maybe a DLC or mod will come through to build basic cabins at some point. My first thought was to compulsively rebuild the PC's house and try denying the horrors of the world. No such luck. Second step was to wall it off to keep the settlers out. Someday it will be a historically monument. Until then they get the crappy shacks.

On the nexus there is a modders resource that recreates the adobe building style used in shady sands and vault city in fallout one and two respectively. It would be great if those models could be added to the building options for settlements. Google "Sandcrete fallout nexus" to find them.

You unlock faction flags after joining the factions. Also after completing Secret of Cabot House you unlock some new paintings. I am very interested in seeing if completing other quests unlocks more content.

Completing Bunker Hill's quest unlocks the ability to build a station for caravaners (so they know where to stay when they visit a settlement).

Interesting, I was hoping for more furniture choices personally beyond salvaged furniture and more decor options. Like why limit what we can place? Clutter and the like fair enough but with another layer of catagories we could have had access to most of the in-game furniture.
