Lags in city due to shadow distance - go for better CPU?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 1:51 pm

Hi,

I got a i5-760@4GHz and 970GTX and notice massive framerate drops when moving in the city - especially around Goodneighbor. Reducing Shadow Distance from Ultra to Medium solves this - but has a negative impact on the visuals.

I've read that the gambryo engine renders shadows on the CPU. Is that correct and would it help to go for a new PC maybe with a 6- or 8-core CPU?

Thanks,
Michael

Your CPU is fine... Try reducing Godrays.

I have to say though I'm very impressed with that volumetric lighting, really adds atmosphere to the game.

Yeah, Godrays is the biggest hit on FPS after shadows.
