I wanted to use the flying command to aid with my settlement building. Has anyone else done this and would you recommend it?

TGM or toggle god mode gives you access to almost all of the crafting items except the stores. Which can make base defense easier if you don't like risking your life to protect your settlement.

Yes but I don't want to be in god mode, makes it to easy. But I do want to be able to fly so I can build my settlements higher.

That wasn't what was asked by the OP and it also gets into outright cheating, as it allows you to build anything with unlimited resources.

Sticking to what was actually asked:

OP: Yes, you can use TCL to help base building, and I've done it. I wanted to add lighted to the top of the tower in the movie theater complex and TCL enabled me to get up there (otherwise it's inaccessible). It doesn't break anything, but there's at least one quirk: you can't attach wires while in TCL mode. So you have to toggle it off, attach the wire, toggle TCL back on and fly up to where you want the wire, perch yourself somewhere, toggle TCL back off, and attach the wire at the other end, etc.

I actually find it fun and like the challenge of building egyptian style - e.g. Primitive tech when ramps, ladders, and scaffolding had to be built temporarily so could build higher. I use the 'magic' stairs, the two level stair piece that you can infinitely auto snap mew piece onto, making stairway to the skies.
