Fallout 4 doesn't start! :(

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:25 pm

Hey Community!

First of all I'm not a native speaker so sorry for some mistakes :)

My problem:

I downloaded Fallout 4 from Steam and installed it and I was looking forward to finally play some minutes of this game. I love Fallout 3 and New Vegas so it was clear from the outset that I'm going to buy Fallout 4.

So...I pressed "Play"...and the Game is starting. But just the first screen. Like for 3 seconds. After That it returns to my desctop and nothing happens. It happens all the time I start the game.

WHY IS THAT? I was so happy that they released Fallout 4 and now something strange is going on.

Im glad to hear from you!

Nothing Strange. Look at the forums. About 10% of the posts here are about your problem. I have it too, and I preordered :).

Im still patient. Barely.

Look at http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1544248-bug-report-index-pc/page-13thread then post your DX specs as they suggest. Then maybe some kind soul will find a quickfix before bethesda.

Here's something that worked for me. The game wouldn't start at all in full screen but when I put it in windowed, borderless it started fine and I haven't had any more problems.

If you go to the thread mentioned, there is several suggested "workararounds" for "tweaking" the game, but its still a problem that is persistant enough for at least 10 of these "Cant start the game Threads" to pop up daily. At least.

I had the same problem, crash on startup. I tried everything everyone suggested. I was finally able to fix it. I uninstalled the latest nvidia driver using the nvidia driver uninstaller from Guru3D.com. Then I installed version 353.62. This corrected the problem immediately. I was able to play it on ultra last night for about an hour with no crashes. Maybe a newer driver version will work. But I'm not going to mess with it until there's a patch from nvidia or bethesda.

I think it would be worth trying an old version of the radeon drivers also. It could be that the new drivers (nvidia or radeon) have implemented some new visual effect or something that fallout 4 tries to implement. If the feature's not there in the driver, it gets switched off in the game making the game work. Just a guess. But I don't think it would be a waste of time to try it.

Another thing... I have three monitors, and a second trash video card in my machine that drives a large TV for watching movies. I was planning to reduce the setup to one display and remove the other video card just in case that was the problem. If you have a similar complicated setup, I can see something like that causing problems also.
