Slow, clunky terrible melee

Dishonered's and Messiah's combat is not as clunky and sluggish as Fo4. Both are considerably smoother and faster.

Exactly. Making Fallout 4's combat like Dishonored (or ANY game, or company who makes a better melee than this crap) is a step up. Dude says I derailed my own thread, when I am trying to keep it on topic about improving FALLOUT 4's melee. Who cares what game it's "like" as long as it's better than it is now?

I wish punching speed was a bit faster.... but I will say that I do enjoy the cinematics that you get outside of Vats sometimes. The combo punches and body slams look nice.

One question, what is the difference in regular attack (right trigger for XBOX) and action point attack (right bumper)? I was used to just VATS and Power attacks using action points.... but you can also power attack with trigger also.

I do agree with you. I usually like to play melee in first person without using VATS. And then build myself like a tank, full endurance and strength and just be the beast that it demands. Popping chems till my eyes are bloodshot and my enemies weeping. But the new blocking mechanic makes it so frustrating, i made a topic on this earlier actually. People can block your every damn attack even with bare hands. It should not be like this at all, and when you got weapons with so slow swing times there is just so much frustration tied to this. Well atleast it is awesome in power armor and running around with a Sledge.

Yes. The natural ability for melee/unarmed to make enemies drop their weapons is actually VERY BAD.

Enemies with fists block your attacks constantly and take ZERO DAMAGE EVEN FROM SUPER SLEDGE!

Power attacks vs. regular attacks are just like Skyrim if you played it. If not, the power attacks just consume stamina...errr Action Points... to deliver a stronger hit. It's just a slightly slower hit that does a bit more damage. Using the AP for VATS is probably better, though.

The smoothest thing I've seen to make real time melee not be as clunk is using pain train and power attack combo.

But you're way better off using that AP on Blitz Rank 2 attacks.

As I said, I've only played with a sword and I enjoyed it. The pace seemed all right. But like I said before I can't speak of other weapons, I'll test it later when I get home from work.

I would just be completely happy with literally every weapon swinging about 30% faster with perhaps 20% less damage.......without that 3 second cooldown on 2 handed weapons (and even some 1 handed ones), and unarmed enemies being able to interrupt a sledgehammer or spiked cricket bat swinging their way with a forearm.

I can forgive the dual weilding for now, but it would be nice to have.

There should at the very least be a system that requires enemies to have a weapon equipped, or metal+ armor to block and actually stagger you. I had no idea that was the case.

It is pretty terrible. Can even compare it to Skyrim for a better system

However, I found that in 3rd person it looks decently cool, and there will be finishing moves. Killcams, however, I fear are relegated to VATS

I don't even care about disarming something. Seriously. I care about beating it to death. Punching needs to work with both hands and be 40% faster. I sincerely hope a MOD is released that adds dual wielding and speeds up melee. Not everybody wants to use guns the whole time.
