How to fix the PC controls problem and UI

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 7:23 am

-Allow people to rebind ALL their keys to whatever they want, you cant even rebind your favorites for godsake... an essential feature is just out, no one can ever use 6 to 0 to use their favorites non - or =...

-When i hit I for inventory, M for map and J for my quest log etc... i EXPECT to be able to close the meu the same way i opened it... pressing the same key.

-The pipboy should be able to switch categories by scrolling the middle mouse button, so i scroll up i go to the right and if i scroll down i go to the left, this way you explore the categories and sub categories easier.

-Sprint should NOT be a toggle on keyboard, it should be a "hold" to sprint key.

-Consistency, we need this, dont sometime ask me to press a key to close and then sometimes ask me for another key to close, sometimes this key to move through menus sometimes this other one, please dont...

-Pipboy navigation should be improved, the only suggestion i had i already posted but anything you can come by to help mouse and keyboard because its pretty messy to use it.

The game plays 1000 times better on a controler and i know because i have one but seriously i bought a copy on PC for a REASON, so i expect to be able to play with my mouse and keyboard, dont make excuses, you are selling a pc game with console controls in mind.

You owe PC gamers this.

I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment but I think it's a lost cause and wasted effort.

Bethesda and UI design is oil and water, they simply totally incapable of doing good UI design for the PC. It's the same thing in every game all over again. They never admit that their PC UI is a poor console port at best without minimal regards to PC gaming characteristics like keyboard and mouse.

Maybe after pressing 'R' to scraqe then 'ENTER' with the other hand to approve scraping for the 100000th time, some good soul in Bethesda who actually plays the game on PC will decide to do something about it (and then probably be fired when he suggests UI improvements to his manager).

100% agree.. I like to use the arrow keys and I use the 0 num for stealth/duck. It lets me bind the key but in game it doesnt work instead i use a bloody stem pack because its a quick use key, so bloody anoughing. Just let us bind any key. Thanks

Have a take all key for containers. Right now I have to press E a lot or press R and then use the transfer all option.

Make a better map. I really hate having to click and drag to move the map. We should be able to move it by putting the mouse to the edges. Also even when I right click to zoom in on the pip boy the map is too small. The power armor map is also much clearer and seems larger to me.

So far comparing weapons and armor is very tedious. We need a compare button or something. Sorting is terriblem. I know a UI mod will eventually help with this. Still terrible job on their part.

Basically mods will fix most of these. Beth is truly lazy imho.

I have spent a magnitude longer of stitching together a temporary solution for people than I have actually played the game

Frankly, I spent more time fixing Skyrim than playing for the first six months.... I'm the one who has the learning disorder, I preordered *again*.

How do you exit a menu? Tab... or escape, or enter, or sometimes e.

Yes, you should be able to close a menu with the same key you opened it with, it's pretty standard for maps, journals, inventory...

And the map is awful. I think that's part of the wasteland ethic, which may be a problem with having the interface (partly) based on a physical in-game item.

We (and I mean I) need to be smarter about making sure a game is finished before we buy it. The Devs just pawn off low-effort secondhand work on the PC market.

For the rebinding you can use a program called GlovePie, its free and lets you switch keys, for example you can emulate the key "9" with the "X" key etc, you then run the program and the scripts are going to made the changes, to stop it you only click on stop and it will al return to normal...

Now if you have a controller thats your best option seriously, the game just work better with a controller even after making a rebind, we need like a complete overhaul of the UI and keys in order to be able to play with keybard and mouse.

Agreed. For me (being a lefty) unbindable keys are the most important and crippling problem.

Rest is mostly (very) bad UI design, like you wrote the inconsistent key usage, the awkward positioning and generally stiff and clumsy UI. I'm not sure how they can screw it up every single time, it is not rocket science. No one ever tests PC controls? Or they just don't give a sh*t? Weird.
