Is there any way to mark allready scavanged houses ?

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 8:16 pm

Hello guys.

I there any way to mark the houses I allready visited and scavanged ? I mean something visible on the house, like a grafitty or something, so I know from far I've allready scavanged that house allready.

They all kinda look the same and I find myself entering the same and same houses again in search of materials. It's really annoying.

Thanks in advance.

They say cleared when you finish the main objective inside them, usually a final boss or hard enemy.

If you're talking about houses in your settlements, where you can open the build menu, you could just build something onto or in front of the house so you know you've cleared it out. Maybe put a flag in a window or a fence post close to the entrance or something. I usually scrap EVERYTHING in a settlement in one go so I don't run into that. I only keep things that look cool to me, like some of the cars in Sanctuary. Everything else is gone.

If it's any house anywhere that's the problem maybe carry a few of some odd rubbish items with you and just drop one outside the door once you have cleared the house?

Nowhere is officially cleared everr matey.

I cleared out at raider base and underground area ( name eacapes me but it's connected to a church )
3 real days ago, went back today, everyone AND the loot respawned!

I suspect that has to do with the settlement building and making sure we never run out of stuff to grab.

Regardless a major location will be tagged as 'cleared' on the map when you defeat the main boss the first time, usually anyway. It's a feature from Skyrim to help you remember which areas you've beaten. It was bugged for me often in Skyrim with forts, and i've noticed it bugged with a few locations in F4 so far.

There's lots of trash, tires for example lying around. And just about every house in Sanctuary has only one entrance. (One or two with a second doorway.) When you're done with a house, go pick up the nearest tire -- hit E and hold for a second to pick up things -- and place the tire in the doorway. That makes it obvious that you were there before.

actually no, fallout 3 & NV where the same as was oblivion/skyrim

that is normal, every area and unmarked location that you have found loot respawns.

some areas dont though like the settlements and for example usaf satellite station olivia doesnt, also certain containers dont like the big chests with the star (look like military trunks) do not respawn loot even if everything else where they are does

I would be careful about dropping items on the world map. In previous Bethesda games this has caused stability issues in longer games, problems with save files, etc. Skyrim was particularly terrible about that. If I had to drop anything in the field I would look for a container to leave stuff in.

This post really took me back ... to Oblivion.

Actually, I find it a little easier to keep track of houses I've been in in this game. Most of the houses are boarded up anyway. But in Oblivion, egggh. Every house was searchable. So I used to put something on the doorstep or porch ... a piece of junk. In fact, I might start doing the same here as I spent an hour and half last night going through every house in Concord.

Maybe empty NukaCola bottles ... or, wait, coffee cups! Just put one on the step.

But there is no marker that I'm aware of.

Yeah but rubbish placed by the devs is kind of funny. For ex: there is a dead body just over the bridge leaving Sanctuary. it was there from the beginning. I looted it and after a while decided I didn't want a dead dude in underpants in front of my settlement so I picked up the body and threw it in the river. That thing is like a freaking ouija board- it keeps coming back! I've thrown it in the river like ten times! So yeah, "their" junk seems to work differently than junk we put out in the world. In skyrim I think the problem may have had something to do with the active physics on all the junk you dropped everywhere just destabilizing the game. They tried to patch it out and refresh the map in a couple of patches but it was always a problem.

rubbish in the game world is already accounted for in the game files. rubbish you throw down is recorded within your save files. the more you throw down, the more bloated your save file gets, slowing the game down and potentially corrupting the save.

i may not be 100% on this, its not exactly common knowledge.

an example in skyrim was that NPC's who were killed by being turned to ash NEVER disappeared. the more you kill that way the slower your load times become, not noticeable at first but it will build up over many hours.

If it's in a settlement, I mark it with an American flag.

I was referring to common houses in the cities.

I though about leaving a visible item at the doorway of each house I scavanged, but if that bloats the save files then I'll guess I'll just have to wait for a mod that allows me to do something visible to the house, whitout making the save files bigger.

in the mean time I guess I'll just have to clear entire cities at a time and this way clear all houses at once.
