It's kind of funny you say that...cos I can bounce back that question to you as well [reading your comments about lady gaga]. Gaga never claimed to be original like I said before she clearly stated that she is not trying to re-invent pop music/culture or pretend that she is unique or original she just takes her inspiration from everything that has been done before and adds it all together with her opinion, views and ideas...but if you think that you can do better?
We live in 2010 please show me a modern day artist who makes original music. Every music genre has influences or sounds like other music that has been done before. Which means that nowadays everything is unoriginal. I can understand if people don't like her music but idk I think hating someone for not being original who clearly states she does not try to be original is kind ofehmm...

I think she's wonderful. She's a great songwriter who has released two very solid albums, she has a lovely voice and is a singular, distinctive personality in a sea of blandness.

Like Madonna, she's prone to stylistic missteps, but I think she's the most exciting thing to happen to pop music since the 80s.

Oh! I've just been clicking through some links on YouTube (can't link due to language) - my suspicion that she is actually a rock star masquerading as a pop star is borne out: her early stuff is glam rock!


She's a less than ideal role model, but most teenage girl's heroes are hardly wonderful either. I mean, I remember my parents disapproving of Madonna, and it's a good job they didn't know too much about Courtney Love, either.

However, I'd rather my offspring be inspired by Gaga than Katie Price or whoever. As for the hypersixualisation, that seems to be universal across music - but the Gaga aesthetic is a rock aesthetic of the type that people like Courtney Love used to have: viewing themselves as instigators rather than as the simpering, passive playthings of any passing jock who might deign to hook up with them. She's got to where she is through raw talent, and that's definitely something I respect.

And she made all those 80s clothes fashionable again. I'd missed leggings!

I don't like her music, so I don't listen to her. I think it's silly when people start bashing her, nobody is forcing them to listen to her.

Telephone is an awful song, I won't comment on the video because they're all weird, that's her thing.

However, I don't have a problem with her at all, I like Pokerface and Just Dance, and probably some others I can't think of the name of. She's a genuinely talented artist, her image is what puts most people off, and it seems to me like she's trying to hard to stand out. But yeah, anyway, I don't mind Lady Gaga. I like some of her songs and don't like others, I can think of worse artists.

Gaga produces the kind of music that I like at a dance, but not the kind of stuff I listen to in my spare time.

I didn't care for Lady Gaga until I saw her sing in a concert. It was on tv but she was singing live. She was singing, not lipsyncing. So now I like her. I hate how people lipsync. She dosn't. She might suffer a bit from it, but she gives her all, and is not fake. From what I hear, she dosn't lipsync in her concerts either, and that I admire her for that. All the others she "copies" from lip sync. Madonna, Britney Spears, all of the lipsync.

While Gaga may not be a healthy influence in terms of physical self image for teenage girls, she did not start the trend.
Magazines, fashion, cosmetics, and the film industry have spent years informing us ladies about how we don't quite measure up to perfection naturally.
But happiness can be had if we just look the part.


Gaga has musical talent, but what sells isn't always what the artist considers their best work.

Well how else are you going to flag the bandwagon to stop for you if you don't yell and wave your arms?

I gotta say, while I am not a Gaga fan in any rate when I see her work I don't see any other pop star, I see the parody of a pop star.

I agree, most "role-models" haven't made very good choices outside of their career long before she came along.


As for Gaga I can't say I am a fan of her music, but it's because I don't listen to that type of music. Her songs are catchy, I will give her that. I don't feel the need to scream my hatred for her just because she makes music that I don't listen to either, reminds me of the reaction to Justen Beiber.

I know the name but I dont know much else...couldnt even sing a line from one of her songs.I have nearly mastered my ability to ignore celebrities...apart from the ones I select for myself of course.

With that said I would think no less of someone who does like her.I just switch myself off when the girls go on about her so I dont retain any information...
