I dont understand the armor crafting system

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 4:40 am

Can anyone help me with this? I've looked and have come up short for answers. Everything that id like to craft is....what? uncraftable? I can only modify pieces like right arm, left arm ,chest piece etc.? Then after i modify those i have to wear them naked? The only thing i can fit under modded armor pieces is the vault 111 suit and... nah ill pass. Plus wtf, some pieces cancel each other out. Do i have to look like a buffoon to be well protected in the wasteland? Is there something im not seeing or is it just a limited system? thanks

Crafted armor pieces are the way to go in FO4 - mix n match mods to your preference. As long as you have a piece for each body part you're good.

Some other clothes can be worn under the armor, like Road Leathers or Military/Army Fatigues.

You also have to level up your armor perk to access higher level mods.

the vault jump suit is actually very handy you can mod it but you can also wear military fatigues road leathers shirt & jeans & BOS uniform under your actual armor and if you cant build it look look at the lower right hand corner of the screen when the undecidable item is selected it will tell you there what you need as far as perks and the rank needed to construct that mod

There are two types of full-body apparel: Under-Armor, and Outfits. Under-armor is thin enough that you can wear armor pieces over it, while Outfits are bulkier, and therefore can't fit under armor pieces. The way to tell the difference is to highlight the item in question in your Pip-Boy. If the entire body flashes, the item is an Outfit, and will unequip your armor when equipped. If nothing flashes, then the item is an Under-armor, and can be worn with armor.

I think it's a very cool system but could certainly use more under-armor options.

As far as I know you can't craft armour from scratch. You can only mod existing armour. When you open your inventory, as you highlight clothing and armour the little model to the right will have the parts affect by that gear flash. If nothing is flashing while highlighting clothing then that clothing can be worn underneath.

Long johns for the win. I just assumed everyone put those on and never took them off once they found a pair.

To get the most protection without using Power Armor, you have to use a Vault Suit. There are some outfits like the Sequin dress that allow Arm Armor to be worn at the same time which can create some interesting styles. There is certainly a lack of craftable under armor in this game which needs to be remedied ASAP.
