Thing and places outside the map!?!

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 7:30 am

Exploring I noticed there are some way off the map things that are even on the pipboy radar. I mean these places are waaaaay off the map. And then in some areas inside the map it says you cant go.. Is the map skewed? Dont get me wrong I enjoyed seeing these places I just was wondering why they are off the map.

I noticed this also. At top of the map the border is right at the edge but at the bottom you can go beyond the border and discover stuff like the nuke crater.

Because they probably worked there way down the middle and got progressively less inclined to add more things the farther away from the start of the game they got.

I think the only reason they put so much outside of the bounds in the lower left is they assumed people would go there to check it out because that is where the nuke explodes at the beginning. But yeah in the far south of the map you get turn back messages literally like ten feet south of Quincy and there is absolutely nothing in that whole bottom 20% of the map. And that whole general area is pretty sparsely populated on top of that. It is pretty silly.

Two ideas. One, maybe they wanted it to feel like you were exploring a real unknown, get that feeling of a true no man's land where you dont have any preconceived notion of what you'll find. Two, the area is fleshed out a bit in anticipation of the DLC they have already planned out. Remember that the DLC is supposed to land in about 3 months, why not start loading some areas into the game in preparation for it?

Bottom left corner of the map, and you can go past it.

Spoiler
It's related to the main quest, so I'd guess the former.

Bottom left but if you stick with the main quest you will get there.

there is a noticeably large area outside the main boundary in the section of the map where the glowing sea is located... you can completely circle the crater if you want tho as you can expect, its not a very safe place.

I've found several places skirting the borders of the map. Mostly sparse huts. Did find a trader at one of them. He didn't have anything good. I've seen that the "outer" border of the border is probably around 10-20 feet depending. Some easter eggs, some interesting stuff. Not much though.
