Scrapping junk to increase ammo for Junk Jet gun

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 10:32 pm

If you feed an unscrapped junk item into the junk jet gun, it only counts as one ammo. But if you scrap it first, and if it contains multiple parts, you get multiple ammo. Let's say some item contains 2 steel, 2 plastic, and 1 cloth. Leave it unscrapped and you only get 1 ammo for Junk Jet. But scrapping it first gives you FIVE. I'm still early in the game and haven't used the Junk Jet gun much, but this could be a very beneficial thing, as it would mean EXPONENTIAL increase of ammo. And the gun is no slouch with 40 damage. FO3 has a similar gun that fires junk items, but of course you can't scrap them to get more items.

The trouble is that scrapping items seems to be a pain. You can't do it in Pip-Boy. You have to drop the items on the ground, go into workshop mode (which means you can only do it in a settlement), and scrap the item one by one. And since scrapped parts go directly to the workshop, you have to retrieve those parts from the workshop, then finally load it to the Junk Jet gun. Hope future mods will alleviate this.

If you do it that way don't you lose the option to actually shoot teddy bear ammo?

With an open-ended crafting game, I can't bring myself to use a gun that shoots junk. It would be like a gun that fires caps or stimpacks.

Not that I won't build one. I always do, cuz it's funny as hell - but I'll use it for a fun for a bit then put it on display somewhere.

I wonder, if you equip a Settler with a junk gun, do you have to give them a bunch of junk to shoot as well?

I already got thousands of junk, and am only going to get more, and I don't envision myself using it all for crafting. Even a fraction of that junk would yield hundreds and hundreds of rounds of ammo. But I'm still early in the game and don't know how useful the gun is yet.

Fair enough. In that case, may I recommend the General Atomics Galleria? There is a gym loaded out with lead weights and a bowling alley just dripping in plastic in the form of bowling pins and balls. Hundreds of units once broken down.

Scrapping all the junk would also help me finding the parts I need at the workshop for crafting. Instead of looking at a list of pillows, home plates, canisters, light bulbs, etc., I would be looking at actual parts like steel, plastic, cloth, aluminum, etc., which would make for quick retrieval of what I need.

Just get Dogmeat to do it. He might not want to give it back.

I collect teddy bears for my Junk Jet. I am on a mission to have hundreds of Teddy Bears for my Junk Jet and then I'm gonna storm the Brotherhood of Steel's home base and kill them all with Teddy Bears.

All other junk goes into my workbench. I don't care about increasing my Junk Jet's ammo capacity... I just care about killing people with Teddy Bears.
