Ever decide to screw over your own character?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 4:14 am

I decided to today.

I've been playing my character as a Master Spy and Infiltrator carefully playing the Institute, Railroad, Minutemen (well not the Minutemen), and Brotherhood of Steel against one another with the intention of siding with the Railroad. Then I accidentally clicked on the Brotherhood of Steel mission to destroy the Railroad.

It would have been easy to reload.

But, the way it's framed, "Our forces are already there to eliminate them."

I can't help but think how FUNNY it would be in a story I was watching/reading to have the PC helpless to prevent his friends from being murdered by the BOS.

And the resulting consequences as he struggles to figure what to do NOW that his planned revolt is doomed.

lol.. sounds like you're having a lot of fun with the game :)

There are so many things I want to try in the game I almost don't know where to begin. I can see I will be playing for a long time.

Yep, I love the feeling that control's been suddenly taken from me... (in games, mind you).

I think that's one of the main reasons why I loved New Vegas so much - the faction reputation system allowed for all kinds of nasty surprises for your character if you weren't careful enough. My [censored] Legion supporter sure learned NCR Rangers were a force to be reckoned with.

Alas, I haven't managed to recreate that feeling in FO4 yet.

Oh totally. Like how Ulysses claimed my Courier was all up in the NCR when he in fact was following Mr House just because the faction mechanics is complete and utter buggy rubbish.

Instead of love for me it was loathe but I am glad for you who is able to love that stuff.

Never personally ran into an issue like that, so... sorry? That me having enjoyed something is apparently causing you grief..?

It's based on reputation with the Faction, which is annoying as there's lots of NCR missions to get support but less Strip.

I know how the reputation system worked in NV, and I'm just saying I never had an issue with it. It wasn't perfect, but I liked it nevertheless.

I just think it's harder to screw your character over in FO4, since it requires you accidentally choosing an option you didn't want, like you said. In NV I used to think I was doing swell, and then BAM, ran into Rangers that could see through my disguise and got myself annihilated... It was actually fun, for me.

I was just saying how it screwed over my character who was Independent but you'd never know from the way Ulysses talked.

Not doubting you... I was Legion all the way so I guess I avoided those issues.

Same here. I never sided with the NCR but was friendly toward them due to them being mostly friendly with me.

I avoided this issue by never playing Lonesome Road again after trudging through it the first time. I wish I hadn't even bothered doing it once, to be honest.

I find it hard to believe that DLC was made by the same people who made Old World Blues.

I rolled a character with the full intention of having her be a member of the Railroad when suddenly, out of the blue, I had her working for the Institute. Her dialogue post-game made me wonder if she were thinking, “What the hell just happened?!”
