Ammo Loot Count

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 9:25 pm

I started a 2nd character with a melee build, and thought it was worthwhile to put together a list of all the ammo I've acquired to use as a guide for future characters. The character is level 25, and has used a fair number of fusion cells, and a few Molotov cocktails and frag grenades, but nothing else. No ammo has been bought or sold. I collect all ammo that I see, and I don't farm.

Every playthrough will have a fair amount of variability, but the relative percentages should be approximately the same each time. Some ammo only shows up after you reach a certain level threshold, obviously. This isn't a complete list, just a list of everything I've seen as of level 25.

EDIT: The numbers below don't include ammo looted from shotguns.

Interesting. I'm at level 25, and at one point i had over 500 .50's. Since selling them they've been plentiful as well. Fusion Cells i have had about the same amount, so i guess it goes to show that it unviable to play with only energy weapons from the beginning.

Even having all energy weapons that use different ammo, not enough. So i guess their role in this one is more of a special weapon, rather than an alternative to guns.

Im curious, do you loot guns as well as ammo? I notice that looting guns themself is also a source of ammo.

It helps that the combat perks are pistol/rifle/automatic, rather than guns/energy. So you can mix up energy & non-energy weapons within your chosen style pretty freely.

Ack, no. This is mostly a melee character, and I forgot. Damn, now my numbers are off by a large margin. I guess the list at least helps to point out what ammo is worth the effort. I'll edit my OP to note this.

I suspected that, I usually have something like 600 or more 5mm rounds quite early in the game thanks to picking up guns, so when I saw your figure it rose a eyebrow.

Do you really get ammo from looted guns, or is it just that enemies you kill have "gun" and "matching ammo" in their inventory?

You do, easiest proof is killing the named bandit north of red rocket truck station, she always carry a minigun, the instant you pick it up from her you'll notice ya 5mm ammo count leap up by like 500 rounds.

Or heck ya can see it by just having the restrain to only loot the gun off corpses and keep a eye on ya ammo.

Yes, noticed when looting synths. Picking up their guns almost always increased my ammo count.

Yes, good point. I was still stuck with New Vegas thinking, it seems

Oh, and i forgot to mention, i have two levels of the Scrounger perk, which probably explains that insane .50 count :hehe: Why can't i upgrade an assault rifle to fire .50's? :(

Balance would be my guess, plus with the tech design of the Fallout universe, I suspect a .50 auto firing weapon would kick like a mule on steroids.

No doubt, but it would be awesome :hehe: And Power Armor was supposed to make a soldier into a walking tank, it could be made so that it has insane recoil if used without one. Like WMX for New Vegas that had a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M2_Browning. That ate everything in the world for breakfast :lmao:

Ah, I thought you had to pick up a gun and manually eject--didn't you have to do that in previous games? In that case, the list is accurate, except for shotgun shells. I never pick up standard shotguns because the value/weight ratio is always poor.

There is a lot of variability depending on quest order. I just picked up 893 flamer fuel from the Forged, though AFAIK there's nothing like this for .308, .44 or any standard ammo

In the ye old Fallout games you had to manually empty guns of there bullets, but no such thing in the recent 3D ones.
