Who to put in your stores...or not!

Hi,

I have a quick question reg. the stores you can put up in your settlement.

I have 3 stores up right now, a bar, a general goods and a clothing store. Should I be able to buy stuff from all of those, or are they partially just for my people?

I have manned the bar with a "Settler" and get the "barter" option to buy stuff. I have manned the other 2 stores with named characters I found in the world and sent to my settlement, and instead of giving me options to buy, they just babble their standard lines.

Means I should probably replace them with normal "Settlers" otherwise I can never use them myself?

You can definitely buy from your vendors as if they were the merchants from Diamond City. I think they have to be settlers, not named characters. I tried to assign Sturges from Sanctuary to a shop and it said something to the effect of "this character is unavailable to be assigned to this resource."

Certain named settlers you find in the world have perks when assigned to the correct store. A certain someone you meet in Good Neighbor can be assigned to the general goods store (needs to be an emporium at level 3) which will upgrade the store to a level 4 emporium. It will start selling special stock (legendaries depending on the vendor) after that + the regular stock.

There is a looping bug as far as conversations go. They'll repeat their spiel as if its the first time you've met them or you're convincing them to go to your settlement. Sheffield won't shut the [censored] up about cleaning up, but if you wait for him to finish then interact with him again, it'll take you to the trade menu.

Mhh I have that special someone assigned to my general good store level 2 and I can not talk to him, he just gives me his standard sanctuary sentence, so that must be that looping bug. I'll try again with both of them and see if I can get to a menu, thanks! Sheffield is in the clothing store (don't know what made me think he is a good seller :D) and all he tells me his how much better he fells over and over and over :P
