That's what I did. I modified it and it shows up now as "Ported Advanced 10mm Pistol". damage 31 accuracy 74 rate 20. When I'm trapped I go to this and rapid fire my way out. I've killed death claws with it.

That and a combat rifle I upgraded. It shows up as "Calibrated Powerful Combat Rifle". .45 cal damage 58 fire rate 38 accuracy 74. I can kill things easier with that than I can a shotgun I modded with 90 damage. I don't get it? I think it's less accurate and takes more shots maybe?

Those two and a .308 sniper rifle I found and that's all I use and I'm on Level 26. I tried to use energy weapons but can't find enough ammo so I scrapped them all.

My two go to weapons are Old Faithful, modded for max damage, range and accuracy and Deliverer. I took the Silencer off because I'm not playing a stealth build and prefer the range. Deliverer is my indoor gun-- great VATS accuracy and though it does a little less damage per shot than Old Faithful, I can get 13 shots in VATS-- over twice the amount.

I also modded a nice plasma pistol that only gets 3 shots in VATS, but does 200 total damage. Hits like a truck.

You know what, I didn't even think about that. I'll have to test it out. Hopefully the standard dps and rapid fire can still make it useful. Otherwise, I still have a standard version back at my base that I could mod up.

It changes over time due to ammunition considerations. I have modded my 10mm up with as much stuff as I can but I started out with pipe pistols because it was what I could mod and get. My .308 sniper rifle is also modded up to level 2 and is a pretty good killer at long range. Just got the Cryolator but ammo is limited. And I bought Old Faithful and am modding it up slowly. The laser musket is a real killer sniper rifle with 4 pumps but it uses too much ammo.

I guess I'm saying I tend to move from weapon to weapon (all heavily modded) depending on how much ammunition I have for it. I've pretty much given up on .38 at Level 18 because it just does too little damage. I'm currently using Grognak's axe but not sure I like it much. I only use it for stuff like radroaches and molerats.
