My tips that people may miss or overlook

Here's a few tips that people might not have realised or overlooked :

1. Cook everything you can, not only does it remove the rads it also gives you some cheeky experience points

2. Before doing any modding or cooking rest in a bed for 1 hour, as that gives you an experience boost for a bit.

3. Resting in a bed yields extra experience boost for a bit of time and only 1 hours rest is needed.

3. A critical is a guaranteed hit even if the chance in VATS is 1%, the only thing that stops a hit is if an object is in the way.

4. Lone wanderer perk works with your dog.

5. Try to only use the most common bullets (ie .38 and .45) for general wasteland use. Save your shotgun etc for critical moments.

6. Head shots. Even if you have to get a bit nearer always try for them.

Cooking food is the big one for me. Not only does it remove the rads and give you XP, but a lot of the stuff you can cook is actually super useful.

Radstag meat can be cooked into something that increases your carry weight by +25 for an hour, and stacks with Buffout.

There's also "vegatable starch" (or something like that) you can cook, that gives you 5 Adhesive. Considering how fast you burn through adhesive, it becomes vital.

I'll just include this here, so that it spreads:

If you want to have your companion return to their original locations, select the option to dismiss them and once the settlement location window pops up, simply select "cancel." This will make your companion head for their default locations.

Armor related tip : I noticed really late that overlay armors with the "Sturdy" prefix have a different look and better stats than normal ones. At first i thought they had a mod...

The basic armor pieces seemed to have a really bad coverage on the body, well, the Sturdy ones are way better (looking) and i wouldn't wear anything else now.

Carry a clean suit with you, and change into it before bartering with traders. Chugging a beer also doesn't hurt.

The Charisma boost makes a significant difference in prices, especially if you're stocking up on a lot of ammo or trying to buy a legendary item that the trader happens to have.

Also, if a speech check comes up in a conversation (yellow, orange, or red text), you can exit the conversation by moving away, change your clothes, then resume the discussion with a greater chance to pass the check.

On a more general note, BGS has implemented save game profiling with FO4. You will have a hidden save as soon as you name your character at the beginning of the game. The launcher includes the option to choose which character to load a game from after you have at least one (i.e., after you have played and named at least one character).

It is unfortunate that they removed the ability to redirect the save game folder pathway, though, since many of us would prefer to not have it on our C: drive with the OS and main game files. Maybe this will change in an update/patch.

There's a "SPECIAL" book under Shaun's crib, in your house after you exit the vault, which will give you 1 free s.p.e.c.i.a.l point, I missed it initially, figured other people might too.

There are 3 tiers to most non power armors, normal, sturdy and heavy all with different looks and increased stats and effects per tier. The full covered one that pops up sometimes in the loading screen is the heavy tier 3 version

Use ammo as currency. There is no point in collecting thousands of .38 or 10mm bullets you will never use, when you can just barter with them to buy something useful.

You can use https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_symbolic_link to put your save folder where ever you want, or to switch between multiple save folders or config files.

Mine is all on my second drive, on my D partition. You just need to point your Documents folder elsewhere (which you ought to do anyway). I never have data on my C drive.

Symbolic links are great for directories you can't just re-direct. I've had to use a ton of them in order to fit Windows 10 on my 40 GB SSD but if you just click on your profile folder, all of those can be moved under properties and location. :)
