SCIENCE! Too high up the chart?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 3:08 am

Just wondering if anyone else thinks SCIENCE! requires too much Intelligence, especially given how important modding is to this game? Armory and Blacksmith require 3 and 4 Strength. Gun Nut requires 3 Intelligence. SCIENCE! requires 6 Intelligence and nearly all the best mods require at least a point in it.

I would have preferred SCIENCE! and to be around 4, like Blacksmith. They'd have to move some other things around of course.

I just think it svcks that your forced to put so many points in Intelligence to mod your melee weapons, especially considering Energy weapons don't need Blacksmithing.

It's a choice.

That's the price.

I suppose... I just find it odd you need so much Intelligence. Energy weapons, for example, have a few mods that require gun nut, but if you have SCIENCE! you already have the Intelligence to get it. I just thought it strange that melee weapons are the only ones punished.

Some mods, realistically, require science to make workable. Anyone can make a serrated edge: making the blade electrical or on fire without hurting the weilder requires engineering know-how. How much energy is safe, how to make fire run the length of the blade, etc.

I'd find it odd if you could be stupid and still modify energy weapons. Gun mods are simple, just pop one off and pop another on, energy weapons are on a whole other level

your going to level quite a bit before you start gaining regular access to laser or plasma weapons any ways. Personally I like that, seemed odd that laser and plasma pistols were some what common in FO3.

Makes sense to me. Adding different materials to body armor and customizing a shottie or pistol are going to be infinitely less complicated than working on a plasma weapon. In real life I can easily strip down my mini gun and reassemble it but whenever I do that with my laser gatling I am constantly referencing the owner's manual.

Speaking of Science, Recon Scope? Huh? What is it good for?

Description says it tracks enemies, but only difference i can see is that is black and white.

I haven't tried it yet but i'm assuming the recon scope follows your target like an aimbot. At least thats what i'm hoping, with the requirements so high.

I agree Science is a bit high up in the tree, thats why I saved it for later, getting Gun Nut and Armorer first.

That's what i though too. Or that it would highlight targets. But at least for single-shot weapons it seems it does nothing

has no one else maxed intelligence asap?! More intellegence = more experience points. I think I started the game with an eight in my INT and within ten levels I got it maxed and found the bobble head to boot! Made most sense for me to max this stat first as I would receive more perk points faster through out my gaming experience.

Ah that would be funny, with Science your bullets track for you :D

I have a character I started at full 10 INT.

I haven't gotten high enough science to get the tracking mod yet.

Nerd Rage is nice.

Leveling speed of a 10 INT compared to a 4 INT is about 2X as fast.

Chemistry Perk is kinda nice you wind up Buffing once for a quest or major building to explore.

Using Jet is like having extended Bullet Time cause its like 16 seconds rather than 8... Lasts for a while.

Comparing my Intelegence character to my Heavy Weapon Specialist well...My Science character has plenty of Power Armor and Fusion Cores but the other character is really pretty much having to be selective about using Power Armor.

I feel the same about local leader and you need local leader 2 if you want to build crafting stations...such a waste of perk points to build something that should be under armorer, gun nut, etc.

You're making guns that shoot plasma. Out of junk. I think that should require above average intelligence. I wouldn't know where to start building that.

The problem is I've only seen one laser sniper rifle drop and so far only plasma pistols from enemies. Both of the plasma pistols were legendary and been upgraded to a sniper rifle and automatic mid range rifle, almost maxed out. That seems to make SCIENCE! pretty overpowered. Especially as there don't seem to be many mods available from vendors.

It all seems to be more balanced with ballistic guns.
