Yes to boats, yes to fishing, yes to underwater life, yes to sea robbers, yes to everything that adds significantly to a living world.

I second that

What is everyone's obsession over these boats? Are they really that appealing? I mean you would think that rowing a little boat around is the greatest thing ever with all these threads about boats.

The obsession with boats is one that goes back hundreds of thousands of years. Recent archeological evidence shows that ancient man (cro magnon or neanderthal) traveled to the island of Crete 130,000 years ago. Crete has been an island for 5 million years, and is 50km from the nearest shore, so it wasn't just floating on a log for fun.

Sea travel is also a general theme in adventure stories, from the Odyssey to Sinbad to vikings to Columbus etc etc etc. And adventure stories are the basis for fantasy stories (the difference is really the time period it was written) and fantasy stories are the basis for fantasy games.

Finally, the argument I use for everything from including werewolves, liches, spears, w/e. It's further proof the Bethesda is willing to push the envelope and put more effort in to each successive game that they make.

I don't really care about boats in particular, but I always hate it in games where something basic and functional to use it just decoration you can't interact with.

It's not just boats. We have threads asking for pretty much everything. I think people are getting their expectations a bit too high.

Arena had some pretty primitive rowboats that you could use to cross bodies of water faster. :whistling:

Indeed. And most of them don't really add anything to the game. I think 'roleplaying' is being used a lot in these cases, but it doesn't really fit IMO.

I remember when I first played Oblivion, I left the prison/dungeon after the tutorial, spotted the row boat right in front of me and was disapointed that I couldn't use it. I want to row boats for Thors sake. Let me row around fjord-like Skyrim environments. I want to be able to sail larger boats too, maybe something akin to a Norse dragonship/long ship. I love the water and the coast, probablybecause I grew up on the shores of the north sea.

All kinds of ship sailing would be great.
Row boats, big ships, small ships, anything you can think of. I loved Side's sailing ship mod for Oblivion mixed with Tamriel Heightmaps. A full world for sailing, but what was it missing?
NPC ships, I want pirates... Of course I'm talking like Skyrim has a lot of water. I think maybe they could expand it to the sea above skyrim.
