Foolproof way to detect mines

Just a useful tip I thought I'd pass along:
If you suspect there are mines in an area (or you're like me, and are trying to find where you placed yours), hold down the vats button to force vats, even if there's no enemies around; vats will automatically highlight any mines nearby, making them easy-peasy to find and pick up.

Heh yup was surprised when I discovered that. Wasn't necessarily happy withn it, though. VATS didn't do that in Fallout 3, did it?

Can't remember with FO3, and I think it was in FO:NV. Reason being, that you can shoot the mines, in order to clear them. I wish, they had a shorter timer tho, because shooting them is redundant, when it is easier just picking them up. In FO:NV, the timer was dependant on your explosive skills (perhaps in FO3 as well?)
