Bob the settlement builder (wishlist)

Well, I see it from a role play perspective. What kind of buildings can a soldier or someone how is lawyer (?) actually build without learning how to do it first?

On top of this, gameplay wise its more motivating to build up your char IMHO.

when it comes to settler management I really don't undestand why bethesda didnt think to put in what fallout shelter has. upper lefthand corner a little gear that when clicked it shows all the settlers and what they are assigned to and their happyness level. first they need to fix the laggyness when playing the game. I just shoot my shotgun and the game lags out for a few seconds. xbox one.

You know those houses in Covenant? I wanna build those. I want to build those walls too. Just because I emerged into a post apocalyptic wasteland two centuries into the future doesn't mean I can't have some modicum of class.

Mind you, ideally you wouldn't be able to unlock these buildings immediately, you would have to do some kind of quest, or find the schematics in an abandoned architectural firm. In any case, I want more building options.

I want half walls that stick on top of normal walls so you can have the roof a little higher. Tons of people place their bars indoors, as well as when you put a building around a large generator. The inverse would also be nice where there's something decorative that hangs halfway down the ceiling.

I have spent more time playing with the settlements than I have adventuring., so these are my main gripes.

1. Dead bodies. Please, tired of seeing dead ghouls everywhere.

2. Overhead view, first/3rd person view is so limited for some of this stuff.

3. Settler managent screen, wether by building a terminal or what, so annoying.

4. Patching existing structures. You give me flat roofs but made houses with angled roofs that have holes in them, not to mention walls.

5. Better ability to clean area wether by having this as a job or doing manually, but if npcs can take over a building and have it look cleaner when revisting then so should I be able to.

6. While I like the dynamic occurance, maybe turning it down a notch for attacks, kidnappings, and clearing out areas. It seems evertime I start to do a quest I get notified I have to defend/rescue or whatnot every other game day.

7. Fix the friggin doorways on existing structures.

8. Better walls, making defensive walls besides concrete floors is super annoying, also you have like 8 shack walls but only 1 doorway and 1 corner that isnt an inside corner. I want to have defensive walls that look like Cambridge Police station that have no gaps in walls and nice catwalks to oversee it.

9. Would love to know why my settlements happiness drops down so much when leave them at 80 and frequently visit. But do 1 quest and find its down to 60....

10. Fix the bug that ate half my defenses. Dont know what triggered it but left a walled in settlement with 36 defenses, see 20 when viewed workshops and visit to find now 12 with all walls gone along with several turrets.

Ok time for bed, I aired my gripes. :)

Oh 1 last thing, table and chairs, would be nice if was easier to place so the dont clip into table.

Those types of mods are fine, they just call a batch file that utilises the console automatically for you.

- cover for you settlers to hide behind instead of them running infront of your gunfire.....

- snap to 90° or diffrent #° for workshop structures

- squares on the ground to show how close a structure like melons and gourds can be to another structure

- amunition, weapons, and armor distribution structure for settlements settlers to equip themselves

- list of settlers at at a settlement and their current jobs, and the ability to assign them a job from the list

- walls that stack on top of each other to make taller buildings without weird looking gaps in between like i had to do :(

- lawn mower of some kind to clear dead bushes, shrubbary, and other junk out of areas like sanctuary

- rebulildable settlement structures like the castle walls that had crumbled

- settlers with names other than settler 1 and 2 also listing their current job like (joe the gardener)

- more importance on defensive structures like a lookout giving more than 2 defence, i mean some one has to alert everyone with the alarm and a turret only works so well......

- the ability to tilt structure like fences and walls to fit better on inclined plains

- round walls, door ways, and roofs to match the round structures you built in the metal structures section of the workshop

- better jobs for settlers outside of stores like instructing a settler to become a caravan defender, or a traveling merchant for all your settlements.

- book shelves, wall shelves, cabinates, and desks that include an option to stack things on them without direct input from me carrying them on them

- manikins that can display our armor without fear of a settler taking them.

- a wall and floor display for firearms and melee weapons we like

- wallpaper and floor covering outside the normal carpets

- the ability to construct eyebots to take junk found in the field back to a settlement, as well as the option to tell companions to take items back to a settlement and store them.

- the ability to modify dog and super mutant armor

- more diverse settlers, i cant be the only one thinking super mutants, robots, and good synths cant be settelers? nick cant be the only faliure, a robot runs a shop in goodneighbor, and strong is not one of a kind, first we had fawks then we had Lily Bowen, then Dog and God, and now strong. super mutants can be good too :)

What I really miss aside from general things like UI ist the ability to have food and water transfered and to have settlemts produce something special like concrete or milk.

In regards to dealing with terrain... I think the concrete foundation floor actually does decently.

Imagine if, in addition to the concrete foundation floor, there were a concrete foundation with "garden/dirt" top and possibly one version of each in double height as to save on parts.

Add in a "planter" of sorts.... which automatically keeps proper distance between plants and we can do alot more with our settlements without having to cater to terrain for just food.

...

I completely agree with better settler management. It should automatically name settlers so they're easy to find and recognize and let you equip them easily and directly from the workshop storage.

I'm a software tester by trade, I've learnt from scratch everything there is to know about construction self taught. It's not hard to work out how to cut a square hole in a piece of wood seeing as the sole survivor seems to have the ability to smelt and weld metals and build robotic death turrets from alarm clocks.

While I was looking through the ideas here I came up with a few extra ideas;

Double beds
Flag poles with choice of flags
Carpet floor
Water tiles
Drawbridge / vault / roof / hydrolic doors doors
Skeleton wall / poles (not just skull pole)
Fogger units with the fog effect (reduce visual range and increase stealth)
Full size wire fence and wire doors
Prison bar wall, roof, floor, door pieces

Perhaps they could be added as a property development magazine and scattered around the world to find like the picket fence ones...

There is a junk all. In Transfer, move the highlight into your own window and the press the junk all key. Everything in your junk menu will transfer over to your workbench.

Then the workbench will use the material from whole junk as needed. Anything left like (gas can, 1 steel, 1 oil) uses the 1 steel, the 1 oil will go to your oil reserves.

Played about 20 hours breaking down crap before I learned about this.

Your better off junking things one by one as it reduces the object size limit on the settlement. Also when you have several thousand bits of junk you notice it's impossible to scroll through the junk to find a key piece you need at another settlement or for a quest. It makes things far more clean and efficient to break everything down to core items.

First I want an way to zoom out more in construction mode, this will make placing large stuff much easier.
Settler management is secondary, why not role after name or at least as option in dialogue. Automatically named then in your settlement.
