Hey, I'm thinking about buying Fallout 3, but I also want some information about it. So I have some questions:

1. What happened to Russia (is there any information about Russia?). Please tell everything there is to know about Russia
2. Are there any really friendly ghouls?
3. Are there any Chinese soldiers on US soil (like in ghoul form)? I would love to see some pictures.
4. What happened to the US government, how is it now, what is it doing.
5. How is US like now? Are there any cities left?
6. When did the great war start (the nuclear war that destroyed the world)? In the 1950's?


I hope people can answer, cause I'm pretty curious. And thanks for any answers!

The remnants of the US government are the Enclave. They consider everyone that is not from the Enclave a mutant worthy of eradication:

You can see how the US is like by playing any of the Fallout games. The cities are mostly destroyed, although some of their ruins have been resettled by survivors. Other survivors formed small communities in the rural parts of the country.



Fallout is set in an alternate timeline that diverged from ours in the 1950s. In the 21st century, it looked like the future as imagined in the 1950s pulp science fiction. E.g. instead of transistors you have huge vacuum tube-based computers with artificial intelligence, robotic servants, a pseudo-utopian society based on 1950s values, black and white TV, music from the 1950s considered all-time classics, and most modern musical genres never appearing, etc,. Weapon development was also different from ours and thus plasma and laser weaponry was introduced, 10mm became the most common ammo type, etc. The modern high-tech weapons were never created - instead, weapons based on how people in the 1950s thought 21st century weaponry would look like are used. And in 2077 all of that was nuked, while Fallout 3 takes place 200 years after that.
