Pip Boy App Not Connecting - Please help

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 6:58 am

Hi all. So, I love Fallout 4, and I'd really like to use the Pip Boy app. Here's the problem though: The app finds my Xbox One just fine, and I log in with my Microsoft Account, no problem. But once I enter my username and password, I instantly get an error message that says:

"SMARTGLASS CONNECTION

Could not connect to Xbox. Verify that your console is setup correctly and that you are using the proper authentication if required. Please check your Fallout 4 settings. If Pip Boy App Enabled is OFF, turn it ON, restart the game and connect to your device again. Otherwise, see official SmartGlass Troubleshooting."

Now, I've read the troubleshooting suggestions, and I've read a lot of forum posts about this. No solutions so far. I can connect to the actual Smartglass app just fine. My login and password are correct. I am 99% sure my xbox and phone are not in any kind of "isolation mode", especially since SmartGlass works fine. Both devices are on the same wireless router. Are there ports I have to forward by any chance? I haven't read that anywhere, but that being said, I initially tried this with my xbox one set up with a DMZ Host, but I have since disabled that and made it part of the normal DNS table.

Other Info:

I'm using an iPhone 6+ running the latest version of iOS (9.1)

My router is an Actiontec MI424WR-GEN3I

My iPhone's IP address is 192.168.1.2

My Xbox One's IP address is 192.168.1.11

And not that I think it matters, but my NAT Type is OPEN if that has any bearing

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

- James

For anyone reading this, I solved the issue. You must make sure to "Allow all smartglass connections" in your Xbox One settings. Without that, you're out of luck. Seems a little low security since anyone with smartglass could control your xbox, but I isolated the issue to this option specifically. Not a single one of the official support articles/tips mentions this that I have seen. If that's correct, then Bethesda should rectify this immediately. If you are still having trouble, feel free to drop me a line, I'd be happy to help.
