Where's the MAC version?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 6:38 am

I'm absolutely in love with Fallout series since 90s. I play Fallout Shelter on my iPhone and curious when will I get the full game (FALLOUT 4) on my Mac?

Best wishes.

The smaller player market on MAC means it is likely not worth their time effort or financial investment to make a port

Apple sells 5.5 million Macs per quarter and I doubt millions of Mac users just don't count to make games for them.

Other huge game titles like Diablo III, The Witcher, Dragon Age, WOW consider Apple community worth the effort.

And the same time Todd Howard said Apple "iPhone came out and we just fell in love with it and we play games on it all the time"

...I just don't get it.

Porting games to Mac is a bit like making Win98 exclusive games. It's not worth the effort due to the limited market. Bethesda stated they'll come out with an Android version in a few months. If something, they would probably port it to PC rather than Mac. Most people are non-Mac users.

And I am not talking about Fallout Shelter! I'm talking about Fallout 4. I don't know who moved my topic to Fallout shelter.

The case is not so much how many people buy MACs, but how many who have MACs that want to do PC Gaming.

The other major issue, is that people arent allowed to "build" custom MACs, or even upgrade or swap out parts, like you can PCs.

So when it comes down to it, The amount of development time an dmoney it takes to make "Two" games.. for PC and Mac, far outweighs the amoutn they are likely to make back , making it for MAC.

Its common for most games not to come out for MAC, nothing new there, its just due to teh hardware limitations Apple imposes.

So yea, sorry but its very unlikely. Did they ever make any ElderScrolls or Fallout 3/NewVegas for Mac? IF they didnt do it in the past, then unlikely they will do it now.

Also most Macs have an option to install Boot Camp and run Windows and play games that way.

Can Macs even run Fallout 4? Probably not, since it is a fixed machine, no changes can be made to the hardware.

Not only that, but Mac gamers are a minority, that some companies won't cater to. Mainly because of money.

Not claiming to be an Apple really devoted fan or anything, but Believe me, Macs can run just about anything. They are built to run high-Octane programs like Sony Vegas, endless amounts of Photo-editing programs, and the most important of all, 3D Design programs, one of the most important things for modding. Their more purpose build for Multimedia design.

EDIT: Besides, with all the "Formatting" going around that the PC players are currently whining about, it might run better on a Mac.

It depends on the videocard the Mac has. A lot of them only have intel cards and or video cards that are designed for onboard use like the Mac Minis.

Has gamesas ever released a MAC version of anything? I don't think they have the capability to do so.

You'd likely have to Bootcamp it and hope it runs.

No, they haven't. And I seriously doubt that is ever going to change. The market share represented by MAC gamers is just too tiny to justify the costs involved in porting the game to MAC O/S. Unless things change DRAMATICALLY, I don't see Beth ever supporting mac.

The PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt does not have a MAC version at all and I don't think the PC version of Dragon Age: Inquisition has a MAC version either.

It'll probably shut down before it melts anyway... and never turn back on again.

Here's another reason Fallout 4 can't run on Mac... It wasn't made for Mac (I'm really stretching out the amount of times I can bash on Apple and not feel bad)

Depends on the one you buy. They sell models with reasonably beefy videocards.

edit: I played Oblivion and Fallout 3 on my previous Mac, at medium settings. At it was just a mid-range iMac. (running Win XP via Bootcamp)

That said - none of the previous Beth games ever came out for Mac, and I wouldn't expect this one to.

I hope Bethesda never release a game on Mac, their time is better spent on releasing game with less bugs and then spent the rest of their time fixing more bugs. Because all their flagship game are almost guaranteed to be extremely buggy on release.

What will be in 10 years? Look at the ARM rising today plus SteamOS, Apple OSX, Android, etc. I personally have several dongle-sized computers based on ARM and Linux. Some of them are 4 cores 1.2GHz. Powerful enough for their size. And I think system on chip tiny sized devices will be your gaming PC soon enough.

If I were Bethesda I would start making cross-platform game engine already.

And what I've just remembered: PS4 OS is based on freeBSD! It's Unix. Just like Apple OSX. So Bethesda engine runs on Unix.
