Ever notice Feral Ghouls look a lot like zombies? You know the FEV Virus that turns people into Super Mutants? Maybe in 2077 A cure for cancer had been developed and released on the public. In small towns people started to change. Their heart would stop beating then start up again. Only to attack the person sitting next to them. Knowing what was going on China and the US got together and said. "Hey, zombie apocalypse. NO!." And decided to nuke each other to cover it all up. BUT being immune to the radiation, the zombies lived on. Maybe the "Radiation" is pockets of left over Cancer Cure. And when people get near it. They change. Explains why there's chainsaws in the game for one. :D

Sounds like an interesting speculation. Let's run it in the Lore forum and see how it goes there. It's not really Fallout 3-specific.

Whilst the Ripper is a chain-Blade weapon, its not a chainsaw. Thats kinda like saying a musket is a shotgun.

That's what I was thinking too.

But I prefer to believe the official story, since zombies caused by viruses/genetic modification/drugs are boring and generic, people turned into zombie-like monsters by radiation on the other hand seems to be fairly creative, and besides, it makes very little sense for humans to destroy themselves with nuclear weapons in order to save themselves from a different disaster, two or more nations brining mutual destruction to each other over political disagreements makes more sense.

So sad... So true...

Isn't it funny that its more likely that USA and China launch bombs (assuming it was them) because 'USA wouldn't let China play in the sandbox' than us bombing somewhere because there was a mass breakout in a disease...
