I'm not sure how common of a fantheory this is, but it kind of makes sense. There is, of course, Harkness' line about the possibility of an android revolt in F3. There's also the obvious American revolution theme going with the Minutemen. However, according to the old "casting call" leak (which has gotten more things right than wrong so far), Garvey says that he and his people are just looking for a "new home" and a "fresh start."

It kinda fits.

Who exactly are the Minutemen? I tried looking them up on the wiki but couldn't find any real info.

According to the "casting call" leak from kotaku, that's what Preston Garvey's group is called. Their clothing fits the name and, again, that leak has proven to be mostly accurate.

I think it's obvious Preston Garvey is an android. Nobody with actual biological hearing would pick that as a name for a human being.

Thanks, Preston Garvey has a wiki page already. Not American so I didn't know what minutemen were historically. Makes more sense now.

The Minutemen were the privately funded militia of the American colonies.

Since this is Boston, Bethesda are going all colonial on us.

I'm tired of all the "PC is and android" threads, too, but I hadn't seen anyone post this idea yet.

Oh, and to add to my point, one of the pieces of concept art shows a BoS member (or at least someone in their power armor) fighting alongside the PC and a Minuteman. One of the only factions I can imagine the Brotherhood fighting that might require outside assistance would be the Institute. Rebel androids obviously would want to join that fight.

The quest in 3 that involved an android was interesting, and it makes sense we'd build on that here. Although the whole androids revolt or machine vs man story is done to death, it will be interesting to see how that plays out in an already apocalyptic society. Usually it happens before that.

If they were actually androids, I think they would have the new look androids have. The fact that there are human looking androids canonically doesn't mean that every human you meet is one.

Obviously not, but I'll be shocked if there isn't a faction of human-like androids fighting for their own freedom. The Minutemen just fit the bill.
Of course, they're the only new faction we've seen so far, so they could easily be rebels fighting some other enemy for some other reason.

I think it's too early to say what they are exactly.

We just know they are under attack from raiders and have access to power armor and energy weapons.

They also seem to have a vertibird, seeing as one crashes on the roof and those probably aren't exactly just flying into buildings on accident;they probably got shot down and were stranded, though he does mention a larger number were there before, and I don't think they sit a lot of people.

They could be helping androids, but we already know the railroad does that, and 2 factions dedicated to it seems a bit off.

Maybe they are just the muscle of the institute? Would explain the technology and vertibird.

Or they are just the closest thing the Boston has to a civilian police force. Would go along with the name minute men;regular guys defending their homes.

I just figured they were Boston's equivalent of the NCR rangers.

How do we know that YOU are not an android? You could be one and not even know it.

Maybe Tood Howard is an android? And Fallout 4 is his massage to tell use 'Androids have feelings too!'?

Minutemen comes from The American Revolution where you are ready at a minute's notice to take on the British. Basically you grab your gun off the wall and are basically a minutemen. I'm hoping the Minutemen aren't more then just a, oh Fallout New Vegas had Cesear's Legion let's copy that with Boston's history thing.

Androids would be cool, would explain why the Brotherhood is up there.
