Indeed - that would give us more of an incentive to try to put things right again (as our character would want that as well) and start a settlement (start rebuilding!)

I hope we get a little more time in the pre-war era then the trailer shows, but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't.
Also why do you keep greeting yourself?
Actually there is a skip between the Vault-Tec guy and the robot talking about your baby. For me it sounds like you were away and as you are back the robot tells you 'Something is with your baby!' They skip a small part of the pre-war stuff.
And you are not long in the vault... remember what the devs said 'And one minute later everything is destroyed!'. This don't sound like you were very long in the vault. And I'm sure you don't get starting perks.
Now that (the "greetings" at the end of a posting) is force of habit (and only polite IMHO - I am not greeting myself, I am signing off on the posting like I would on a letter!) I've been doing it for ages (yes: I could put that in the signature, but somehow I rather write it everytime) and the word greetings, well I took it from Stargate SG-1 (Thor, the Asgard uses it that way...I quote: "Greetings, I am Thor...")
greetings LAX
Here's my two Bottle Caps:
+ We're stuck in the house for the whole pre-War tutorial.
+ Our only interaction outside the baby and Vault-Tech guy is walking around the house clicking on things to listen to Sole Survivor's commentary about the things.
+ Playing with the baby kick-starts the whole nuclear Armageddon thing.
+ The rest of the tutorial takes place inside Vault 111 where we are reminded of how to use our weaponry, etc.
Pretty much this....
There is no real reason or benefit for you to go and give a speech at the veterans hall, we also dont know where this is located and only that the family planned to go there 'tonight'.
The interesting question to me is, once the nuclear attack is announced do we lose control of our character so we only see (as in the E3 footage) snatches of time as our character runs to the shaft entrance and tell I spouse we love them before the blast wave hits.......or do we have some control, with the inevitable 'game over' as we fail to run to the Vault in time as we wander around our neighbourhood.
I think that most likely we'll retain control all the up until we reach the vault. There are likely slices of gameplay we didn't see, such as getting past those armored soldiers guarding the vault entrance for example.
I doubt the player will have to do much to get past the power armoured soldiers since the game points out your names are already on the list and the trailer has one of them on the shaft entrance escorting people (including the family) to the entrance. We may of course get a scene of them allowing the family entry through the fenced entrance or if it remains player controlled you may have to talk to the guy in fatigues with the clip board to gain entrance.
Considering the size of those rockets, no. Fallout has never had nuclear explosives small enough to fit in the mobile rockets; even Fat Man bombs are significantly larger than them.
Can we not simply bypass the vaulttec guy and go for an jog?
Thinking of the new dialogue system, in FO3 he could have locked us but in 4 he does not, so unless its some hidden wall behind him I guess the next wall is around the neighborhood.
Another option is to punch the guy
Really though...
Doesn't it seem kind of convenient/rushed on you to be like "Mkay honey, just secured us a spot in a vault in the event of nuclear war. Gunna go put the baby to sleep. What's that? Nuclear War has begun? Lets go"
I'll be a bit let down if the opening is as fired off as the E3 presentation's was. I believe it will have a bit more going on in the release version though.
It would be interesting though that if you really can just not open the door for the Vault Tec guy or turn him away you then have to find a way to get into the Vault anyway. Perhaps sneaking or talking past the soldiers or something. Probably not, but it would be cool.
Well not really, the Vault Tech guy is there just as a means to pick your special stats, he is basically the special book from Fallout 3. Story wise he tells you that your already successfully enrolled with Vault Tech, reminding the player that they can be safe if they reach the vault....I'd assume once you're talked to him your pretty much directed along a set path to survival so you can set your perks and get the weapon tutorial done in the vault part of the tutorial.
I doubt the pre-war and waking up in Vault 111 parts are much longer than the Vault 101 tutorial from Fallout 3, its a delicate balance.....long enough to draw you in to the Protagonists story, but not long enough for the majority of players to be shouting "set the world on fire, for Gawd sake!"
The problem is that there is only one way into a Vault and from the trailer your pretty much only getting in because your on the list.....since the game seems to make you talk to the Vault guy (to set your Special stats), I doubt there is going to be much of a option to fight, sneak or talk your way in to a Vault that already wants you to come in anyway.
My personal feeling is that the script we see in the leak does feature at some point in the final tutorial as the husband practising his speech, or at least referring to it. He would then either give the speech for his wife to look after, or if playing as a female would pocket it himself. The reason I say this is because I have a strong feeling that the actual written speech will end up becoming an important plot element during post war. For example, your protagonist wakes up in the vault and his family is missing. He searches for them as well as getting caught up in various other goings on during the start of the main quest. And just when he's about to give up on the idea of ever finding his family alive again, the speech mysteriously shows up.
Who knows, really. I doubt that we actually saw all of the intro and if we did that was one short intro sequence.
