I'd recommend considering a PC. The game will be best on PC because of more powerful hardware and unrestricted mods. If you have to go with a console, I'd recommend the Xbox One. It's just as cheap as a PS4 now (if you don't get the kinect) and BGS struck a deal with Microsoft to bring mods to their console. It's possible Sony could still join in the modding party, but at this point the PS4 is by far the worst platform to play Fallout 4 on simply because of a lack of mods.
PC < X1 < PS4
Do you still sit down at a desk and use a computer? I ask because a lot of people don't nowadays, they just use tablets. But if you still use a desktop or would again like to, well then remember that a decent gaming computer will also function as a pretty nice general purpose computer.
That is nothing more than a baseless assertion. Tablets are not computers, with the exception of perhaps the Windows Surface Pro. While it is true PC sales have been in decline since the rise of tablets, that's largely because most customers already have PCs to begin with. Tablets are convenient, but are incredibly limited in what they can do. Especially in a work setting, desktops are still very much relevant in the everday life of most folks.
May I suggest a PC, you won't need to have a whole new system, and you can use it for other things than gaming. Might be an easier idea to sell to your wife than a gaming only system.
Just imagine playing Fallout 4 on a tablet
I say go with your feeling, OP, and get what that tells you
I would not give her the opportunity to say no. I would take a more covert path and just use your current PC case (if you have a desktop) and add all new parts to it. Hopefully your case is on PCpartpicker so you can see what will fit inside your case. If you really want to be slick you can just buy a new PC case and put all the old parts from your old PC in the new case and make it look like you bought a new family PC. That would explain the purchases as well. You can use the Steam link when it comes out if you would like to play in the living room.
Think it through, because she could come with that "You're 32 and still playing video games?" angle and completely shut you down.
I bought an Xbox One just for this game, and a new TV. The new smart TVs have lots of apps and if you are a decent PC user, I would think buying a PC and using a new smart TV as your monitor would give you more than buying a new console. Only reason I didn't go that route is because I loath computers, with the exception of my Macbook.
I recently got an Xbox One and I love it. I got the 1TB bundled with the Halo Master Chief Collection. After a lot of consideration I decided to go with the Xbox One for several of reasons. They are offering backwards compatibility with the old Xbox 360 games coming this fall, the streaming for Netflix, and the controller. I love the Xbox One controller. I had originally purchased the Xbox one controller to use with my PC games, and I loved it so much, it's one of the reasons that I bought the system.
If it helps to convince your wife, you could point out that the price has come down, plus it's a good value because you will be able to play your old 360 games on it. And if you don't have FO3 already, you can get a free copy when you pre-order FO4 for the Xbox One. Or tell her it's the only thing you want for your birthday/anniversary etc. It worked for me (with my husband anyway).
Seems like there are many here who have spouses who are opposed to gaming...
There is a PS4 sitting right next to me but it belongs to my Grandson and while he is willing to share, I am not sure I am. Thus I do plan to buy a new PC in order to play this game.
Well, it's time to buy one anyway because this one is dying a slow death. I sure hate letting go of the money though.
The game alone makes me want to upgrade to a better PC.
