Multiple Vaults

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 3:42 pm

I loved the "return to the vault" quest in Fallout 3 and would like to see multiple vaults with their own questlines.

Perhaps one vault could have been raided by raiders or even deathclaws (like in fallout shelter) and the surviving vault dwellers habe barricaded themself in the radio room and sent SOS signals out which your pipboy just happens to pick up when in range.

Or maybe a much calmer scenario where there's a vault overseer election and one candidate is murdered. You can either help catch the culprit and clear the other candidate of wrongdoing, thus preventing a riot or violence between the two sides, or you can pick a side and fight with them to give control to that side. Similar to the dwarven storyline in Dragon Age Origins.

There could be a vault that has developed a caste system where there's a previledged few who live in luxury, not having to work or contribute, and the rest live working all the time with a gun to their head (lile a Hunger Games type feel). You could try a diplomatic approach or just off those in power and set up a new system where everyone contributes and has a voice. Or you could not interfere and benefit from trading with those who are in charge.

I think the vault aspect of this game has been highly under-utelized and has so much potential. It would be cool to have these little underground off-worlds with problems of their own be a part of the Fallout 4 experience. Hopefully if they aren't they can be added in an expansion or mod.

We had plenty of vaults that had personal experiences in Fallout 3. I didn't explore any in Fallout NV, but I know they were there as well. Honestly, vaults are one of the aspects of Fallout that I'd actually argue have probably been over-used. I don't mind them necessarily, but it's something BGS has heavily relied on with both of their games. I wouldn't mind venturing into some new territory.

It has been a very long time since I played either Fallout 3 or NV and I never actually completed either or saw all the content. Now I have even more reason to revisit those games between now and November.

You should. Once you get to the Citadel in Fallout 3, all of the locations of the various vaults in the Capital Wasteland are revealed to you. They are all very different and offer their own unique challenges. You might be surprised what you find.

Well I am putting in another 60+ hour work week and have obligations at home so it may he awhile before I get around to firing up Fallout 3. I need a copy anyway. I heard you get one when you preregister for fallout 4, is that right? If so, that might be the way to go.

I have New Vegas on my iMac (with a windows vista os) and so I could start playing that first. Though I know it's not nearly as good as Fallout 3.

If you are buying Fallout 4 on the Xbox One... You will get a copy of Fallout 3 which will have backwards compatibility on the Xbox One. To my knowledge, this deal is not going to happen with the PS4 or PC. If you have a PC though, Fallout 3 is dirt cheap.

$20 on Steam to be exact. Why couldn't I just get a used copy from Gamestop?

I don't quite see how he is trolling, or how him posting here has any relevance to the topic at hand.

I'm quite sure there will be at least a handful of vaults to explore out there in Fallout 4.

I think the "Vault doomed because of SCIENCE!" idea has been pretty over-used. Vaults being doomed because of problems completely separate from their intended experiments would be a breath of fresh air, as would Vaults that managed to thrive despite the experiments they were intended for.

I would like to see a hidden, secluded Vault that hasn't been discovered yet, maybe as part of a side-quest, where the Vault was perfectly normal except that it could only be opened from the outside, and which you could potentially get trapped in if you didn't take some safety measures (partially as a nod to one of the Vaults in Fallout 3). Mostly because I like the image of that giant door opening, and seeing a bunch of skeletons of people who died trying to force the door open suddenly fall out like the elevator blood in The Shining.

Although, having said that, as unnerving as that idea sounds to me, I think it would be better to have a quest to save that Vault. You stumble on it, get trapped inside, and find a decent sized population that is on the decline because they can't get out, so you work with people trying to find some way of escaping, from hacking the system (which could run the risk of causing a meltdown in the reactors), finding a tunnel connected to the Vault you can use to escape (inhabited by dangerous creatures), blowing a whole in the door with enough explosives (citizens concerned about how that would leave them vulnerable to enemy forces), and so on.

It will be interesting to see what Vault experiments there will be in Fallout 4. Personally, I am interested in seeing the aftermath of Vault 43 (20 men, 10 women, and 1 panther), Vault 68 (999 men and 1 woman), and Vault 69 (1 man and 999 women). Hopefully, we will get a Vault similar to Vault 11, Vault 87, Vault 92, Vault 106, or Vault 108 with a seriously messed up history.

I'm sure we will get some vaults with messed up backstories. I think the OP was more about finding vaults that were still in operation, like Vault 101 in the Capital Wastes.

It might be a stretch, but when you think about what you see in 101 and hear from former dwellers in other games, some of them had to be fairly large. Afterall, 101 had a baseball league. Imagine the size of a cavern you need for a baseball field. Since the long-term survivor vaults would be full of hundreds of people, some should still be in operation.

It would be interesting to find control vaults (like 13, 101), opened vaults (like vault city), as well as non Vault Tec ones for change of scenery (Private, government, military, competitors' etc), even some non vaults that fulfil a similar purpose, such as an ocean liner with on board hydroponics, or an underground city (similar to Logan's run), or maybe a surprisingly well guarded botanical garden/arboretum.

I would like to find a Vault full of "Female Clones", and have a different experience for the Vault based on Player Gender. I have seen "A Boy and His Dog"...

I do not think finding Vault 69 would be fun for any character :cold:
