If I were to have any issues with the quality of threads, it would be that there are just so many repetitious ones. Of course, some of that is caused by max post locks. While it can be trying to see the same complaints, theories and lore arguments retread, I truly don't have a problem with repetitive topics because people clearly still have things to say. Nobody is forcing me to read any particular thread so if I feel encumbered by reading one I only have myself to blame. I like that the moderators have taken a proactive stance on enforcing a "play nice" environment. I even had one of my posts deleted because it was a troll response to a trollish thread topic. That's a good policy overall and one that I feel has led to some constructive arguments.
Yup, let's discuss Fallout 7 while we're here....
This isn't a new game from a new developer. They'd have to purposefully mess everything up to ruin it for some of us. Hell, most of us accepted 3 with all of it's faults and still love the game, series, and will without even playing 4, know that they will love that as well.
Wait, so calling people brain-dead is rude but calling them weak-willed is fine? You don't think that's just a little condescending?
I don't think he was trying to be condescending. He was just providing a more fitting description.
I'm guilty of having clicked click-bait threads.
Hm? Can't you tell the difference? There are weak-willed people just like there are fat people. When you call a fat person "ball of lard", it becomes an insult, not a description.
This has got to be one of the most ironic and offensive comments I've ever read on the forum!
Yeah, I mean as the OP says positive threads for a game that has only a small amount of offical info is bad, but of course negative threads based on the same info is good....
sarcasm again.
I'd say it's more the intent behind your word-usage that is potentially offensive, not the words themselves. For instance calling someone 'weak-willed' with the intent of likening them to being brain-dead is rude. The intent is functionally equivalent to calling them brain-dead.
Also, how has this thread not been locked yet?
Everything is potentially offensive, the difference is that unlike "weak-willed", "brain-dead" is (almost?) always an insult.
And of course then there are cultures who think not hiding a shortcoming behind some ambiguous expression is an insult, but I'll keep ignoring those.
Speaking of ignoring, I agree that mods shouldn't ignore the thread, it was dead on arrival. But hey, at least we had a nice discussion on semantics
I don't see much point in this thread continuing.
Threads made just to complain about people are generally frowned upon. This is a forum - it exists for people to discuss topics. If you don't like the topics people are discussing either find ones that do interest you or here's a thought - make a real topic that's worth discussing instead of moaning about the dearth of topics that interest you.
