(Suggestion) New Mega-DLC format from Obsidian

This is true. I'd be okay with an experience transfer of some kind, but not really a story transfer. I will say that with the way level scaling works in Bethesda games, starting the game with a high-level character isn't as huge a balance shift as it is in other games. Especially since these games like being really nonlinear, too.

FONV was no expansion.

It was a full fledged game the same size as F3 just using the same engine as F3.

Because it plays to both companies strengths and specializations.

Bethesda has a proven track record of creating amazing huge open world games that make full use of current hardware.

Obsidian has a proven track record of creating amazing background settings, NPCs, and creating even better stories using them.

Bethesda will do the F4 DLC and refine and expand their work and then can focus on the next Elder Scrolls while still getting a cash flow from all the work they did to develop the Fallout 4 world.

More money coming in means they have more resources and won't have to rush the Elder Scrolls development.

Especially if they are going to be developing a new game engine for Elder Scrolls 6.

Obsidian can do what they do best and focus on the storytelling using a proven engine that they already have experience with.

They can build on the game assets already created and expand on the already refined game play incorporating the best elements from the modding community.

I really can't see any down sides for Bethesda.

Considering how many years between releases it is not like a another FONV for F4 will dilute their brand.

FONV had almost 10 times the sales of F3 in the first month and boosted sales for F3 just like F4 has boosted sales for both F3 and FONV.

Not only would it bring in more money, but it would keep the fan base engaged and happy.

Maybe they can do a one month release schedule for F5 ;)

Of course if Obsidian has a full schedule and too many commitments, then it might not be possible.

But it is a proven formula to make everyone happy.

So I know they are going to seriously look at it.

From what little we have seen, the F4 system looks pretty well able to handle high level characters.

Guess we will know in a little over 2 months.

Add me to those who would love to see Obsidian do a West Coast follow-up, but as a full price, stand-alone game leveraging the engine and much of the art assets. I loved New Vegas, but more time spent on content and story and less on reworking the engine (and more time period - at least 24 and preferably 30 months) would have made a much smoother follow-up as well as simplifying mod development. Obsidian's vision complements Bethesda's nicely and would give Fallout fans near twice the content without burning out the Bethesda team or neglecting their other games. Modders can always link the two games for play after the content is enjoyed. Perhaps in the Fallout universe there is a transcontinental Underground Railroad linking east and west coasts, with sections delegated to proven mod teams so that traveling between the two would be a meta game in and of itself.

Of course, a more manageable and more logical scenario would be an Underground Railroad linking D.C. with Boston.

Glad someone clarified about FoNV being a full game.

Anyway, i am seconding another poster here.

I am aware of the Tale Of Two Wastelands mod and i followed some of their threads/new/articles/etc...

And i am asking myself the same question each time i see their download page. "Why bother ?" Why bother installing that mod ? What would i gain?

Even if they put some kind of teleport from the CW to the Mojave, those place still be isolated from another. No npc would mentions the various places from the other side. There wouldn't be any quest crossing the two locations. If you bring your companiongs from the Mojave to the CW, none of them would have any comment on Megaton or Rivet City. Veronica wouldn't have any opinion about the east coast BOS. Just like DLC companions wouldn't have anything to say about the main gameworld. Unless it is planned by the dev and relevant to the narratives you are building, i don't see the point of implementing a mere teleport between gameworlds.

Although It isn't because i don't see the point that others might not see it. So if you have actual argument for it, please enlight me.

Simple, to play Fallout 3 on New Vegas's updated engine.

The idea of Obsidian doing an expansion or DLC isn't really new to the forums either. I like Matty's channel , though. I just don't think someone should make a thread every time they rehash something.

Wouldn't a simple Fallout 3 update do the trick ?

Do we have to import an entire gameworld (or more if you count DLC) into another to add a bunch of features ?

Partially, but there are no mods that completely change the Fallout 3 engine into the New Vegas engine. Also, TTW allows one character to move back and forth between areas.

You know, every time a new Elder Scrolls or Fallout game comes out now, someone chimes in with this idea of making it some sort of uber game.
