Being able to seamlessly melee attack from holding a gun...

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:57 am

Guys you are taking this into your own directions. This is not about stats... This is simply about being able to hit someone when I run out of ammo, we havent seen anything like that in the gameplay release so it needed to be said.

STOP TRYING TO PATRONIZE ME.... "Oh its only common sense" "An educated guess would suggest"... Is not called for. Show me a concrete confirmation instead of speculation and I'll agree...

We don't have concrete anything. Stop asking for something that isn't available, cuz you're only going to get speculation. Oh and what game let's you go out of your way to afix a bayonette that wasn't originally on the weapon, and NOT let you use it??

But we have. Using common sense and logic what we have shown makes it concrete.

This is the proof im using, 0:35 on the Atom Bomb Baby trailer: https://youtu.be/FNfqQ7iJDg0?t=37s

Some people may say that's a finishing moves, but finishing moves didnt behave like that in prior games. The raider starts off at full health which is taken down with successive strikes, although we don't see his death in the end. I think that means that the Sole Survivor is using some form of dedicated melee attack to smack his pistol around.

Edit: What is also interesting is that with the bayonets shown off in that menu it means we might finally have a good shot at someone modding spears in like good old Morrowind. Bayonet fighting on guns is drilled pretty much the same way as the good old spear that has been used throughout millennia.

I'm curious to see how well this implemented myself.

It's probably either perk related or an auto melee attack you can execute with a firearm as either an animation kill cam or when closing distance with an enemy. I wouldn't expect a firearm, melee attack to yield much damage though as players would abuse melee to save ammo and repairs.

That would be the entire point of melee, though, same as it was in older games. Sacrifice long-range power for more effective and efficient close-range power. And we don't know if/how repair is incorporated into Fallout 4, but I'd imagine pistol-whipping someone would wear down a firearm faster than just shooting it.
