You're welcome, LeBurns. And I'm not positive this is the article OP is referencing. I didn't see anything about gameplay, per se, but it did mention quote: regular free up-dates which will include “not just fixes, but new features” that are requested by its community, as implied in the post. unquote
hardcoe or survival mode is one feature that has been highly requested by the community, among other things.
It's better just to interpret what came out of the horse's mouth: From the https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/fallout-4-launch-and-beyond/2015/09/08/22:
"We'll be doing regular free updates to the game, and like Skyrim, these will come with not just fixes, but new features. For Skyrim we added things like mounted combat, legendary mode, kill cams, visual enhancements and more. We’ll work with all of you to figure out what new things you’d love to see added to Fallout 4, whether they are small tweaks or new features."
So, it might be possible they'll add hardcoe mode down the road, but we'll see. Honestly, if they figured out a way to get players to eat/drink/sleep without needs meters, and added every other aspect of hardcoe mode, they wouldn't really need to make it an optional mode. You can make gamers care about managing their resources without turning it into a slog.
Oh no I can't have negative karma! The "update" I was speaking of, is the announcement about added features post launch. So if it's not in the vanilla game,I'm pretty sure it will be added later.
I hope some form of 'hardcoe' or 'survival' mode is in. I always had it on when I played NV and found myself missing it when I went back to FO3. It's a pain in the ass for some, but that little extra bit of realism/immersion for others and should be optional upon New Game creation. Hopefully it'll be more severe than NV though. I always play lucky characters and it didn't effect me as much as it could've. But it did effect role playing/inventory management and such.
"Should I pack food before going on this quest?"
"How much food should I bring?"
"What is my PC's favorite food/drink?"
"Is he/she an alcoholic?"
ect. ect.
I really can't see why it wouldn't be included as an option. It's pretty basic as far as features go...
I realise it's not exactly as simple as that, but I can't imagine it would take months of development.
