Any Insights regarding DLCExpansions?

The DLCs for the FO series have been a bit hard to predict - at least for me.

It's been somewhat easier for the ES series, in that DLCs/expansions to the vanilla game either involve territories nearby or going to other dimensions/planes of existence. For instance: in Morrowind/ES3, we went to mainland Morrowind and Solstheim, which at the time was controlled by neighboring Skyrim. ES4 stayed in province for the first DLC and then took us to an Oblivion plane. Skyrim visited the remotest border regions of neighboring provinces (High Rock and Morrowind) and also took us to alternate planes.

But the FO DLC don't follow such neat and tidy patterns. In fact, I can't imagine a DLC for FO4 taking us to, say, New Vegas or Washington DC.

If the fan base had any influence on choices, I would love to head into New Hampshire and/or Vermont from FO4's boston and see some genuine, non-radioactive green mountain country.

Has anyone picked up on clues from Bethesda what they are thinking in terms of expansions to FO4?

consider the lack of clues we have for the vanilla game, DLC is even far less clued honestly, I think we have to wait for that game release beore we can even begin to see hints.

In terms of the content itself, we have no idea. It might be safe to guess that the expansions will work more like TES expansions, where there's only a couple of major expansions instead of several smaller $10 expansions.

...The game isn't even out yet...

...We barely have a glimmer at what we're getting in the base...

...And you're concerning yourself with the expansions...

When the game comes out, we'll see what kind of hints there are towards dlc... even then, those hints could be future games and not future dlc. Fact is, the devs, at this point, don't even know what the dlc will entail.

If I want to make any kind of prediction, it would be that we get one story DLC that expands on the main story (Broken Steel, and Dragonborn), and at least one story DLC that adds a new worldspace for us to explore (Bloodmoon, Shivering Isles, Point Lookout, the Pitt, New Vegas's DLCs, Dragonborn, etc.).

I wonder if/what any of the minor "$5" DLCs would be like; with mods on the consoles, I don't think Bethesda wants to bother putting out any sort of housing DLC or equipment packs, although they would definitely throw in some extra loot, housing, and companions into their bigger expansions. Vehicles are a possibility, but I don't think Bethesda wants to incorporate them, especially in a game world that wasn't designed for vehicles. Maybe a pack that adds more mini-games like cards and billiards to the game world? Bethesda's got the edge on modders when it comes to adding new animations and voice acting.

I dont think you can follow any sort of TES lines for DLC; Todd howard has made it very clear they're 2 entirely different games and its reflected in even gameplay.. Fallout 3 and new vegas both had 5 DLC (give or take, excluding pre-order bonuses for NV) as opposed to TES' 2 main DLC then additions ontop of that..
Its likely that theres 5 x £8 DLC in the pack i believe. Makes sence; total price would be £40, season pass makes it £30 (1/4 off for pre-ordering/bundle buying the dlc) i mean, the dlc is coming pretty fast, with early next year already hinted at so i wouldnt expect some overly polished DLC. Fallout DLC was never massive, but it adds some cool additions and, well.. Its fallout. I dont complain.

I doubt anything like broken steel will occur. Bethesda have made it perfectly clear that it was a bad idea to have a "kill your badass character" ending in fallout 3 and they didnt develop or have any say in the plot of New Vegas, given maybe "yeah, dont [censored] with our 2277 timeline for our next game" which is why im assuming new vegas was set in vegas and in 2281 (i think the dates right? Its been legit 2 years since ive played new vegas..) so as to not conflict with anything in boston, being pretty far places apart and out of sync with the timeline; we need never worry about conflicting cannon the courier may have presented.

Bethesda has gone on record to say they weren't satisfied with the process for making DLC in Fallout 3. It was hectic for them from a production standpoint, and they weren't as pleased with the final products and how they fared for us consumers; they describe this as exactly why they went with two larger DLCs for Skyrim. Fallout and Elder Scrolls are pretty different games in terms of gameplay and everything, but Bethesda still has the same design philosophy and workflow.

Broken Steel was made to address fan complaints about Fallout 3's ending, and use that feedback as an excuse to add some new content. They won't be making the same mistakes again, but I still think they might put out a DLC like Broken Steel or Dragonborn, where the major plotline is a supplement to the main quest in the base game. Dragonborn was even better in that most of the content it added wasn't even related to the Miraak questline, and you could participate in most of it regardless of your involvement in the main quest.

Ahh, I'd never heard that ^_^ seemed rather calm; even internet adverts rolled out specifically for broken steel which i found.. Odd for a game. As i recall; skyrims main DLC were £15 a piece? (Or country equivalent) which - if fallout 4 had 2, would be £30 giving no incentive for a consumer to pre order it.. Curious, Maybe they do 3?

Also, bethesda have announced periodic updates citing skyrims mounted combat, kill cams, legendary mode and the like as examples.
And theyve already shown the sole survivour being flown in a vertibird using a minigun, then considering theyre treating power armour more like an actual human-sized tank, i think thats fallouts equivalent of vehicles now.
Im fine with that, nice having the option but half the fun is exploring the wasteland.
Im not entirely sure about "petty DLC" like oblivions horse armour, houses or new vegas' gunrunners stash.
Theyve said they themselves wont charge for mods but may let modders charge for console ports but this is the problem it presents for console DLC; Whats the point in bethesda making "petty DLC" if they can let a modder charge people for what they make and take a commission?

Im fine with payed mods - an £8 DLC-esque mod would actually pay a small team to do a fairly decent job if enough people bought it. Then, there'd be ALOT of variety - modder dev teams popping up.
Just not viable on the likes of steam as is

Skyrim's two major DLCs cost $20 apiece, and their little Hearthfire DLC cost $5.

Funny story, there actually was a Build Your Own Home mod for Skyrim that came out before Hearthfire was announced (although work on Hearthfire started immediately after Skyrim's launch, as shown in a gamejam sizzle reel they released); IMO, Hearthfire proved its worth compared to the housing mods for including multiple locations you could build a homestead in, a more fluid home-crafting system, and features like adoption and hiring a follower on as a steward. Those last two are important because they involved recording new voice acting for existing NPCs; which is something mod authors can't really do at all.

OK, this makes tons of sense. Two major DLCs that add to the storyline or constitute major questlines of their own.

Considering FO4's location, I think a shrewd move for a major DLC would be the Ipswich area north of Boston towards the maine border. HP Lovecraft wrote some stories centered around a fictionalized version of the town. The Bethesda devs could have a field day with a FO version of such an environment.
