Possibility to mutate to a Super mutant?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 5:29 pm

Hi guys,

Would't it be cool to walk in some secret laboratory. Where lots of crazy tests going on when you discover a potion that when you drink it let your blood boil and turn your skin green and become a super mutant. With increased strenght and decreased intelligence. losing capabilitys of wearing human armors and the use of small weapns like rifles submachine guns, but be able to use melee weapons and big guns like mini guns, Browning M2, flamers and rocketlaunchers, get new perks like breaking doors or lockpicks. Become accepted with other mutant tribes. mutant shop. all packed in a DLC or if still possible to put it in stock fallout 4

If memory serves me i believe there was vault 87 that was behind people turning into mutants called evolutionary experimentation program (i just googled it lol), so that secret lab already kinda exists.

Would it be cool to turn super mutant? Yeah I think so but only for a time. I would definitely not want to be a super mutant for much longer than say the duration of a quest lol. Also remember when it comes to guns Fallout is a little different, there are no Browning M2 machine guns lol and plus you can already use machine guns, flamers, and rocket launchers as awesome human beings :P. and there's not a chance there's time to put that in the base game.

Come to think of it you probably should have posted this in the Mod ideas thread ;)

it would be cool, but as state on the lore, becoming super mutant take a long time, isnt something u just get done quick, plus u cant become stupid like the super mutants on Washington.

Also, it's a one way trip. Once you become a super mutant that's it, you can't (And shouldn't be able to) change back.

The Endurance 9 perk looks like the Vault Boy has turned into a Ghoul. Whether it allows ghoulification or the protagonist explodes in a nuclear explosion when their health decreases to a certain level remains to be seen.

Problem is ya would need to write sooo much more dialogue, heck make whole new separate main story missions to accommodate the effects of becoming a super mutant, honestly I think its better to stick to being a human and only a human.

Exactly, it would take an incredibly complex mod to be implemented properly aswell.

There was a mod where you could start off as a super mutant in New Vegas. Like a racial choice.

It was...Interesting. You were way bigger than everyone else, so often times you got stuck in doorways, or had your head up in the ceiling. You also had special super mutant versions of clothes and armour because good luck fitting a pre-war business suit on your giant frame.

It was a okay mod but I think the issue of the extra height would cause issues from the get go with making it official content. Also I think any professional developer would want to give something unique to super mutant movement to make it feel distinct from normal gameplay. So ontop of being too tall for doorways you also move with a lot more weight and strength. And thats just looking at it from a mechanical point of view, not the lore/roleplaying stuff that logically you should be getting shot at constantly which then feeds back into gameplay not being fun because you can't talk with anyone.

Another mod, maybe? Depending on how the power armour feels in gameplay you could make the heavy and slow movement of super mutants using those resources. Still would have to solve the height problem, which would require some sort of way to duck under things in a smooth way which hasnt really been achievable for mods. The story stuff of everyone reacting to you is impossible to make fun, the New Vegas mod made very little attempts at that, even with the Mojave being one of the more tolerant places for those guys. Would be nice to try it, though.

The issue with the super mutant transformation is that it's permanent and debilitating. However, if they introduced another kind of FEV mutant...something in between a human and a ghoul, that could be cool. Like something similar to the Skulls from Phantom Pain.

I would transform if it were a dlc and temporary.. if it included the entire dipping sequence.

Like the darkspawn dlc for Dragon age: Origins

I like this idea as an extra option in game, certain perks you could only take if you turned mutant etc. If it was implemented I'd give it a play through just for cracks & giggles.

A one way street, that.

According to the wiki and other sources, Super Mutants lose all gender identifiers during the process, so if it happened to me, I would have to scream to the heavens "I CAN'T FAAAAAAAPPPPPPP!"

No because it wouldn't make sense. Vault 87 was already stated to be basically out of FEV by the time Fallout 3 begins, and currently that's the only source of the virus on the East Coast.

Unless there's yet another source of Forced Evolutionary Virus in Boston, which would be a tad ridiculous.
