Fallout 4 Settlement System?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 5:51 pm

How do we think this is going to work? whats the menu going to look like? how will we acquire new items/buildings? How does attracting new settlers work? how will we connect trade caravans?

I'm excited for this system and more information on it!

Edit: What do you want to see/ Get out of this system?

I believe the first two questions were answered at the e3 showcase. As for getting new items/schematics, I think it will be unlocked through buying schematics from vendors. With getting more settlers, I think they will either come to the settlement randomly or we find them in the wasteland wandering around. I have no idea with caravans. Maybe start them from major settlements in the wastelands?

I think they just show up when you have the right amount of food, protection, beds, etc. in your settlement. The caravans are perk related, but I have no idea where they would have you initiate trade routes.

As for what I hope for, I am pretty happy to have what we know about already, but if I'm being greedy, I'd ask for:

  • Ability to define custom laws in my settlements
  • Potential for raiders to take-over and inhabit my settlements
  • Underground construction via tunnel building system
  • Potential for wars between your settlements and in-game settlements that have a bounty on you

I would like it if you could have one of your companions stay in one of the settlements and protect it while you're away. And maybe have the option to build houses for your companions to live in, so when you dismiss a companion, they'll go to live at the settlement where you built their house.

In the "Character system' Video showing the perk chart, they hover over the 'Local Leader' perk in the Charisma tree briefly. the first rank of this perk allows you to establish supply lines for settlements.

This seems like a pretty viable feature to already be in the game. If we don't have somekind of outside housing (dismiss to lucky 38) option, we'd surely be able to send them back to our settlement. Not sure if assigning a specific house to them would be in but it likely wouldn't be hard to implement

Hacker, Science! and Gun Nut are also used for Settlement crafting.
