It would be a welcome addition.

I wouldn't count on even being an option at all. Beth didn't spend all that time, trouble, and money recording all those thousands of lines of dialogue just to have us turn them off with a toggle.
Personally, while I'm not fond of the idea of giving my character a voice, I am willing to give it a shot before I start scouring the Nexus for a mute protagonist mod...complete with appropriate subtitles for us.
Hey, if I had to put up with Shepard's bland voice acting, you lot can put up with Sole Survivor's bland voice acting. We're even, yo!
i guess i agreed with u, i think the same like u, i dont play to represent myself, normally i tent to think on game like Fallout, ES, DA, ME, like books where i can choose the way to the end that is already write. So i never think the protagonist is me.
Glad I have a pc now, gotta check with modding community to see if their are plans on this.
I don't think it's self-insertion so much as it is a limitation on the voice you can give a character.
But, it's really over blown. It's a niche crowd (niche within a niche) that actively maintained a character's voice and imagined it when they selected dialogue options.
And?If somebody doesn't want it you can add a toogle. One of the first mods will be one that adds empty voice files.I honestly don't care how much money they put inot it should have spend it on other npcs voice acting. I
Even if I don't do that it is still not going to fight my RP char msot of the time.
I myself am not sure what to think of this. So far, whenever I played the Fallout 3, I could imagine whatever voice my character had, according to my imagination, which was part of his or her personality. Big bulky person with thick beard? Imagine a very deep voice or for humorous occasions an almost all too thin voice as if he svcked on helium. Thin girl who never does anything evil? Imagine thin innocent voice. Girl who is being a 'bad girl'? Imagine haughty deeper female voice.
So a voiced protagonist DOES take away from the RP feel of the game but I wont judge until I saw full gameplay and how much you can customize on their voices. It can be an improvement or something that limits our imagination and RP aspect. So do not judge or talk down to people who dont like this feature, please. Some people really like to use their imagination more. No need to jump at their throats for their opinion. They have theirs, you have yours. Agree to disagree and move on.
If it will have a mute feature -which I doubt it will have- I could imagine that the screen does not turn towards the protagonist when he speaks to not have the 'flaps lips but no voice' scene. Or perhaps the lip files will be also disabled so we only see the protagonist standing still while the subtitles go on or makes the movements with his body according to the conversation.
I think you're right, it's really not going to happen...
Even if they did have a "mute" function (beyond a general "all voices" slider), I imagine that all the rest of the convo system would work the same. Just with subtitles.

One of those interesting "different people are different" things.... perhaps it's because I'm a more visually-aligned person than auditory (ex: took lots of art electives in school, never felt the desire to take any music/oratory/acting classes), but I spend a lot of time creating the look of my characters, and I've never imagined a voice for any of them.
Yeah, just turn the volume on your tv or computer all the way down
For the love of the god, please quit suggesting this. I see you are repeating it over and over. People who dont really like the voiced PC would love to hear all the other voices, just not the one of the protagonist. Turning down the volume would take away all the sounds.
