How are you going to level?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 9:22 pm

I'll likely not start with 10s (or even 9s) in any stats, but there ARE some rank-9 and rank-10 perks I may want, so at some point in my character's development I'll be bumping SPECIAL stats, but not until I feel the need to do so ---- plenty of perks will be available to me with my initial stat selections. I will likely pick up perks that let me do ~new~ things (hacking, lockpicking) before I pick up a perk that lets me do something I already do, but better.

I am likely to ignore settlement stuff and crafting for the ~initial~ part of the game, but then later on start developing those perks / stats so that in the late game I ~can~ tinker with crafting and settlements more efficiently (CHA, INT, perks).

I'll go straight for perks, I will choose these based on the main problems I have so that I can fix them. If problems tied with S.P.E.C.I.A.L.'s arise (or I need to get a perk that requires more of those points), I'll level them up ASAP.

Like I said, I'm going to train what I need. Stats unlock perks, and perks absorb the function of skills (so I call them skerks ... or does sperks sound better?).

In New Vegas you got a perk every other level, but you also got skills every level on top of that. You still ended up maxed out before the end. This game is balanced differently. With more than 270 potential perk choices (in vanilla ... I'd be shocked if DLC didn't add even more) plus the need to raise SPECIAL, it's unlikely that any given character will attain a high enough level to come close to having everything.

Artificially limiting myself to fewer sperks (yeah, I like sperks) than I'm entitled to wouldn't make much sense. I really don't see why anyone would do that.

Maybe there'll be some wearable khakis. :D

Charisma, Intelligence & Agility will get the most points. Anything to do with hacking, lockpicking & trading/interaction with NPCs for early game boosts.

Combat is usually limited to low level creatures and random lightly-armed raiders early on so that stuff can wait a few levels.

I plan to pick perks first that match my initial build focus, and then grow other categories as it would makes sense for my character. So I plan to focus on Agility and Perception and build those perks out first, then if it makes sense to up a SPECIAL to get other perks open to me, I will do that and round him out. I do not plan to take perks that make my character level faster, I want to enjoy the progression over a long period of time.

Infiltrating perks (lockpicking/jhacking) first. Then some combat perks. After that I'll have to asses my character especially on the first play-through as I don't know all the perks yet.

Hard to say.. I usually start with a set character in mind.. but as perks become available and the game progresses I usually end up haphazardly choosing things based on whim more than careful planning.

My first levels will probably consist of:

1: Start the game!

2: Gun Nut

3: Armor Smithing

4: Lockpicking

5: Hacking

6: Sneaking

7: Attack Dog

8: Science!

9: Local Leader

Or thereabouts anyways. I may re-order things once the other perks are revealed.

I enjoy playing with energy weapons so I will focus on these type of weapons and gun crafting/modifications. Also maybe mechanic to have them in good shape.

Cannot wait for this game and quit Diablo 3 RoS!
